Virtual Fashions on the Field Passes with Flying Colours

It was a first Tuesday in November like no other, with would be race-goers forced to get inventive to celebrate Melbourne Cup Day. From Flemington to Canberra, fashionistas donned their fascinators and matching attire at home to participate in the Thoroughbred Park Virtual Fashions on the Field – ‘Melbourne Cup Day – Colour it your way!”.

Led by Danielle Cleary Events and judged by Canberra identity Kristen Davidson and Melbourne Cup Carnival Oaks Day Fashions on the Field winner Brittney Tamou, the first-ever virtual competition proved to be a massive success.

The hashtag #thoroughbredparkfotf received over 200 tags on Instagram alone with 73 lads and ladies’ entries across all platforms.

Kristen Davidson said “Although Fashions looked different this year with the ‘virtual’ twist, the silver lining was that we saw so many familiar and so many new faces locally and nationally. I just can’t wait to share the experience with all these faces in the flesh at Black Opal in March if restrictions allow.”

“With over 70 entries to scroll through, every single one putting together an incredible ensemble the contestants made our job so hard this year” Davidson said. “I’ve been involved in Fashions on the Field for over 5 years and some of these outfits were the best yet!”

“A huge congratulations and thank you to all the entrants. Thank you for taking the time to put together your beautiful ensembles and take a pic to share, Fashions is a huge part of our racing day and we can’t wait to do it in person at the Canberra Carnival.”

Prizes were awarded to winners and runners-up in Local Lady and Local Lad categories as well as the National Lady winner. Cobie Sheehan was crowned the Local Lady Winner and was thrilled to be taking home over $2,000 in prizes.

Cobie said of her pink, purple and blue outfit “Melbourne Cup is all about bold & colourful. This is my interpretation of colouring it my way.”
