Todd Smart confident Eurosay can capitalise on current form
Racing in excellent form this preparation, Todd Smart’s Eurosay will step up in grade for Tuesday’s TAB Federal (1200m) at Queanbeyan.
In terrific news for the local industry, the Canberra Racing Club in conjunction with Racing NSW and the Queanbeyan Racing Club, will run a rescheduled meeting at Queanbeyan on Tuesday 24 August after the race meeting scheduled for Friday 20 August at Thoroughbred Park was abandoned due to COVID-19 restrictions currently in place in the ACT.
Eurosay, who boasts two wins and a second placing from his three runs this preparation, is in the form of his career and Trainer Todd Smart thinks he can match it with this talented line up of local sprinters.
“He’s certainly never raced better.” Smart said. “It’s been the best prep of his career and I think he’s got to be a massive chance in the TAB Federal tomorrow.”
Eurosay will be piloted by in-form apprentice Damon Budler and has the advantage of the inside draw having drawn Barrier 1.
“Damon (Budler) rides him each morning at track work and has done so for a long time.” Smart said. “I think that’s a massive advantage because he knows the horse so well and the inside gate is a big plus too. I’m really confident.”
The lightly-raced Island Bay Boy for Tony Sergi was well backed last start in City grade, running a respectable fifth placing. He looks to have a heap of upside and shouldn’t find this Benchmark 75 TAB Federal outside of his grasp while Norm Gardner’s last start TAB Federal winner Delacour will be a looking to add to her sparkling record of five wins from just 15 starts.
The TAB Federal is Race Seven on Tuesday’s program and is due to jump at 4:10pm.
