Simon Dinopoulos to join Canberra Racing Club Board

Simon Dinopoulos to join Canberra Racing Club Board

Following the retirement of Canberra Racing Club (CRC) Director Greg Friedewald, Simon Dinopoulos has been appointed to fill the vacancy.

Friedewald steps down after 3 years of service to CRC and the local racing industry.

Dinopoulos is a strong racing advocate and is currently the Racing Operations Manager at one of the Clubs Partners, Racing and Sports (RAS). Simon is digitally savvy and brings fresh perspectives which will help add value to our efforts to continuously modernise our business and our sport.

Dinopoulos joined RAS in 2012 and has established himself as one of Australia’s foremost thoroughbred form analysts having developed his craft under acclaimed international handicapper Gary Crispe.

As a Senior Handicapper, Dinopoulos developed and maintains a handicap model for Asia and parts of Australia. He has developed and designed various visual form products that are currently in-market. Using sectional data, he developed software to generate video comments for thoroughbred racing globally.

In October 2023, Dinopoulos was promoted to Racing Operations Manager, overseeing the Racing Department at RAS. He is responsible for the delivery of racing content to client partners globally.

As part of his role, Dinopoulos has collaborated with RAS’s quantitative analysts, to implement various form factors into machine learning models, contributing to the continual improvement of RAS’s racing predictors.

CRC Chair Liz Clarke said, “It is exciting to have Simon, a young and dynamic professional, bring his broad global knowledge and experience of the racing industry to the board.”

“His passion for racing & wagering and digital experience will greatly complement our team and we look forward to working with him.” Simon Dinopoulos said, “My first job in racing was here at Thoroughbred Park so it has come full circle.”

“I’m looking forward to having skin in the game and I’m excited to be involved in what is a challenging and exciting time for Canberra Racing.”

“There is a great team at the Club led by Darren Pearce, and they’ve made some great progress over the past few years.”

“I am excited to bring my expertise to the Board and contribute to the strategic direction for the Club and racing industry in Canberra.”

CRC extends its sincere thanks to Greg Friedewald for his contribution to Club over his tenure.
