Racing & Sports Canberra Racing Preview Friday 4 September 2020

The track should present in the mid-soft range with fine weather in the capital. The rail will be in the true position and we’re likely to see a fairer playing field on the last two heavy-track meetings which favoured runners out wide.

Race 1 (1200m) BM60

Average tempo with Alpine King leading the way. TEMOIN CHAUD (5) resumes for the Olive barn seeking the hat-trick. She will have come on and McDougall's booking suggests she will be ready to go. She's trialled and expect her to prove the one to beat. WILFUL SOUL (6) seeks the hat-trick off the 3.5L CL1 win here on the deep track. She has to run an extra 300m today, and it won't be so wet, but she keeps improving and is sure to go close. KOPAONIK (9) made sharp improvement placing here two weeks ago on the heavy and Penza sticks. She is decent chance if she can repeat that effort. TREASURE BOSS (1) will appreciate a dryer surface coming of messy heavy track contests. Gets a soft run from the rail and always respect the yard. BET: With Temoin Chaud if the market reflects stable confidence.

Race 2 (2000m) CL1

Olmeto looks the likely leader and should be able to comfortably find the front. PERALTA (2) is well-seasoned and presents off stronger provincial contests. Back a bit in trip shouldn't bother and McDougall's booking is a positive. He's the starting point in a competitive race. OLMETO (7) is third-up and ready to fire off the Hawkesbury efforts. He has strong figures this distance and is likely to control the race from the low gate. Expect him to go close. CLUB LEGEND (1) won this grade here on a deep track and then ran on strongly placing second behind Havaduel and that galloper has won since. He will push forward and is a serious player. FINAL SHOWDOWN (3) is a stablemate to the top selection and followed the Maiden win with an okay effort at Gosford in better grade than this. Gets Cahill and is also a chance. BET: Leaning to Peralta.

Race 3 (1400m) Maiden

No noted lead but Mohahna, Under Orders and Rebel Lady will all be prominent from the jump. A tricky contest. MOHAHNA (1) toughed it out well placing second here behind Frankly Savvy on the heavy and will be better for that. He has more up the sleeve and will be hard to beat for the sharp yard racing handy. ALL TOO RIO (8) was back and wide on debut at Newcastle off a string of trials. She was well out of the market, but showed enough to suggest he’s likely to be very competitive in this contest. She's fitter and Loy replaces the apprentice. UNDER ORDERS (7) had a tough run on the Open 2 at Newcastle and has trialled since. He has a future and respect him off the freshen-up. REBEL LADY (5) peaks for the local yard and prepared to forgive the last two. The first-up placing here on the soft stacks up. BET: Backing Mohahna to win.

Race 4 (1400m) CL1

Solid tempo with Liberty Fields and Frankly Savvy making the speed. FRANKLY SAVVY (3) was on pace and won by a space here on debut on a very deep track. She can control the race from the rail and go right on with it for a leading Sydney yard. LIBERTY FIELDS (5) rates very well off the deserved Maiden win at Goulburn. She ran along and smashed them by 5.3L and is feared. PROVEN CLASS (1) resumes off a long break for the new yard and is up to this if presented on-song. She's trialled in town and draws to box-seat. Gets top weight but will be a player if the money comes. BRENNAMAN (7) resumes for the ACT premiership yard and it wouldn't surprise to see him wound up. He's won fresh and at this trip and has very competitive best- figures. BET: Backing Frankly Savvy to win.

Race 5 (1000m) Maiden

Speculative how the field settles in the run. A tricky form assignment and the market will be instructive. ELVEENA (9) debuts for a top Sydney yard off two Rosehill trials. She's likely to run along and looks to have good ability. No surprise if she proves the testing material. ANDREAS (6) debuted in town at long odds and didn't get into it after a slow start. The recent Warwick Farm trial suggests he's going to return to racing much improved. Gets the blinkers first time and Ford's booking is a positive. MIMESIS (5) is ex-Waller resuming for the Sergi yard with the blinkers applied first time. The debut effort in town in December reads very well for this and the market will say if she's pleasing the stable. COPS AND ROBBERS (1) ran into the placings improving at Moruya and will use the low gate. His best run was here this trip on a slow track. BET: This is winnable for Elveena if the money comes.

Race 6 (1600m) BM65

Solid tempo with Shenandoah a likely pacemaker. SHENANDOAH (6) was back to his best here second-up winning by a space on the heavy track. He was heavily-bet and won't have to improve much to take this out for the form yard with McDougall staying aboard. PECUNIARY INTEREST (3) ran on strongly placing first-up in the same race and is suited by the rise in trip. He's improved and will get every chance with the 2kg claim and getting a soft run for the low gate. HOLY SUNDAY (4) was heavily-backed again winning easily at Scone in the CL1. Penza sticks and drawn well he'll be well-fancied to win again reaching peak. GARROS (2) has to come back to the mile but has never raced better and the wetter the better. BET: Backing Shenandoah.

Race 7 (1000m) BM 70 Federal

Plenty of pace with Calescent, Moore Euros and Whycatchim prominent on jumping. AMEARES (13) brought a solid city effort to resumption missing a whisker at Goulburn, before being caught wide without cover in the CL3 at Randwick and was in the market. She will be fitter and back to the shorter sprint won't bother. Needs a good ride but McDougal is reunited and he's won on the mare. CALESCENT (6) just won that Goulburn race and then was on-speed again beaten 1.8L in the Kembla Grange 64. The 3kg claim is handy and she's feared on the 6-day turnaround. ONTHETAKE (14) has won and placed the last two in the country and expect the form to stack up. She could surprise at a good price. MOORE EUROS (8) had won a trial by a space and then didn't get into it here first up on a deep track. She's up to this at best and expect quick improvement. POLAR STAR (4) resumes with a 3kg claim for the Olive yard and needs to be kept onside. BET: Ameares might provide the betting edge.

Race 8 (1200m) Maiden

Not much exposed form and speculative how they settle in the run. The market will be instructive. FORTUNE SEEKER (11) debuts for a leading Sydney yard off a Rosehill trial win. She looks to have plenty of ability and will run along and is likely to prove too good. HYPNOSIS (8) had trialled well in town and made the placings on debut at Goulburn heavily-backed. He draws to advantage and is a serious player with the extra fitness. Stablemate HALLIES COMET (7) has won a city trial and didn't seem to enjoy the deep track here two weeks ago on debut. Gets the blinkers first time and a low gate and expect quick improvement. ATTESTAR (10) wasn't beaten far second-up at Goulburn and then was on speed and folded-up there over further. The shorter sprint suits better and McDougall is an interesting jockey switch. LENNY'S LAD (3) is also in the mix. BET: With Fortune Seeker if the money comes.
