Racing & Sports Canberra Racing Preview — 18 June 2021

Racing is again conducted on the Acton synthetic, which is a blessing given the amount of rain that’s fallen in the capital. There’s good race depth as we get into the program.

Race 1 (1206m) Mdn

PEREGRINATION (3) was okay on debut and resumes today as gelding owning a sharp city trial. Gets a low gate and the leading hoop and will take beating.

FEUDALIST (2) debuts and has been well-trialed. He's also Sydney trained and profiles well. Expect a bold run.

GOLD GIFT (7) led second-up at Wangaratta and got a lot closer. Uses the rail and fitter is a winning chance.

CHRISTMAS REIGN (1) debuts off a solid Randwick trial with the blinkers applied. Looks ready and keep safe.

BET: Peregrination to win.

Race 2 (1080m) Mdn

BUSH WARRIOR (5) debuts for an emerging Sydney yard owning a 2.3L Kembla Grange trial win. Draws out but looks the goods and this is a winnable assignment.

ONYA LIONAL (1) is a local on debut and the trial was better than the finishing position suggests. Also gets a sticky gate but Heywood's booking is a positive.

DESTINY'S REPUBLIC (6) has been threatening. Gets a low gate and can use it. Keeps the small claim and should be right in it.

BRIDLED LOVE (3) needs some luck debuting from a tricky gate but his trial placing was good and Bensley sticks from that.

ELLA AMELIA (10) presents off a trial win and can prove best of the Dryden debutants.

BET: With Bush Warrior of the betting reflects stable confidence.

Race 3 (1280m) Mdn SW

FLYING GRACE (6) made another ratings spike beaten 1.5L at Newcastle and that reads well. Will race handy and will take beating reaching peak fitness.

SHE'LL BE APPLES (10) is also ready to win and best to forgive the latest outing.  Was only beaten 1.6L here prior behind Khaleej.

ICONICALLY (7) is ex Waller resuming for the local yard. Gets the blinkers first time suggesting he will be presented more forward by a new barn. He has the ability and monitor the betting closely.

SUREKAT (11) resumes for the sharp local yard with the leading rider booked. She'll come back better and elevate if there's a serious market push.

BET: Backing Flying Grace to win.

Race 4 (1900m) CL1 SW

SAINT HENRY (3) has placed close-up the last four and they all read well for this contest. Drops in grade off the Wagga 70 and Ward can give him the run of the race on a 7-day return.

EPIZEEL (5) is still a Maiden but was good over the mile at Wagga behind the promising Toretto. Forgive the latest at 1400m on the heavy. Is likely to enjoy the 1990m and is also back after 7-days.

TAN LINE (4) had no luck the latest but was close up this track prior at 1750m. The 2kg claim brings him into it again.

BRENNAMAN (1) will run it out and raced favourite here two runs back and didn’t have much go his way. McDougall is reunited and the gelding is worth another chance.

BET: Backing Saint Henry.

Race 5 (1750m) Bm65

Competitive.

LARMOUR (3) was well supported here 28 days ago but was caught 4 wide. Missed a whisker the two before and Penza takes over from Owen. Draws for a soft run and should prove hard to beat.

CASINO TIME (6) missed a nose this track before delivering the 2L win in the Wagga 58 at 2000m. Gets weight relief and keeps the leading rider. Is back 250m but should go close.

MOHAHNA (4) will use the low gate and go on the 60 win this track two-back. Ward replaces the apprentice and will give him every chance.

VALLAURIS (2) brings a win and near-miss and is ready for the lift in trip. Draws for the run of the race and winning rider Owen is reunited. Is back after 5-days and is also a winning chance.

BET: Leaning the way of Larmour.

Race 6 (1206m) Bm70 – Federal

CLEARLY REGAL (13) has the figures to win and will be better for the solid first-up effort. Draws for the run of the race and McDougall is a key jockey switch. Has won second-up and expect a bold effort.

DREAM RUNNER (2) resumes for the Canberra premier yard and brings a Goulburn trial win. Bled his only run last campaign and was just nudged out at Kembla Grange prior. Needs some luck from the sticky gate but he's promising and can come back further improved.

STONE COLD (8) has placed the last two at 66 level and they stack-up. A value hope if he runs the 1206m right out.

OUR FINVARRA (7) always puts in and can't be ruled out.

BET: Backing Clearly Regal.

Race 7 (1080m) Bm60

FANGELA (3) has been freshened since the dominant first-up win. Seeks the hat-trick and he's a promising galloper with a 2kg claim. Is likely to have these covered.

RED KANZI (7) did a big job first-up when just nudged-out in the 58 and has come back better. She won't have to improve much to go close.

RIVER MAC (5) presents off the Wagga Maiden win and Penza sticks. Fitter he's capable of making the finish.

WICKED WILLY (8) resumes owning a Warwick Farm trial win and draws low with the leading rider booked. Will have come on and keep safe.

DISSEDGE (6) is well into the campaign but rates well at best and gets the blinkers first time. Cahill's booking encourages.

BET: Keen on Fangela if he starts here instead of Sydney.

Race 8 (1280m) C1

A tricky form assignment.

VERDI (7) is right up to this and should be ready to fire third-up. Draws for a soft run and McDougall is a key jockey switch. The first-up effort in a strong form-race was particularly encouraging.

ROMAN CANDLE (12) belted home to place here having his first run for the Olive yard, but was disqualified after Ward weighed in light. There was a lot to like about that and his peaks are right up there.

DIFFERENT TIME (10) is third-up and hasn't been far away. Like Cahill's booking and she's capable of surprising finding her best.

EVANORA (2) is fast and can make short work of the wide gate. Won the Maiden by a space this track 28 days ago heavily-bet, but will get more pressure today. Is sure to be fancied to take the next step.

BET: Looking to back both Verdi and Roman Candle.
