Racing & Sports Canberra Preview - 8 April 2022

The rail will be in the true position. With plenty of rain forecast through to and on race-day, the track will be wet. A good betting program prior to any scratchings.

Race 1 (1000m) Bm 65

DISTILLATE (3) peaks and was beaten 2L here 9-days ago in stronger behind Washington Towers and was right in it until late. Will be better for that and is in well with the 3kg claim. Goes on top from EMMA'S GIFT (9) who continues to race well. Led this grade on the same day and was run over late. Uses the rail and Loy is a positive booking. Will give plenty of cheek over the shorter sprint. KNICKPOINT (1) spiked his figures missing a lip at Canterbury in much stronger as a 7-2 equal favourite. Has been freshened and is sure to go close with average luck from the sticky gate. ALL FORMIDABLE (5) interests on resumption for the Dryden barn. She's shown enough to be very competitive if presented on-song.

BET: With Distillate in a good contest.

Race 2 (1200m) CL2

EASY ROSIE (5) brings super form to resumption and has trialled well at Warwick Farm. Is sharp fresh and performs this track. Uses the rail and Penza's booking suggests they mean business. DEVINE MISS (2) resumed improved recording an impressive win here at CL1 level. Should get the run of the race and fitter will get every chance to go on. BEAU ROCK (3) was on-speed and deserved the comfortable CL1 here 9-days ago. Will press forward and is also a live hope. ALMOST PERSUADED (6) has been knocking on the door since the Dubbo win and is in the mix drawn to advantage.

BET: Backing Easy Rosie to win.

Race 3 (1000m) Mdn

PYRAMID OF FIRE (5) disappointed at Goulburn and then went to Scone and was beaten a lip on a heavy track. With rain about he’s likely to get conditions to suit. Has a wide gate but Loy is booked and can manage that. Goes on top over TEMPESTAS (1) who peaks of close-up efforts including here and Penza sticks with the speedy galloper. ESSONNE (7) debuts from a low gate and has looked good at the trials. The betting will tell a lot with her. CARRINGTON FALLS (6) did enough first-up in the country as favourite to fill a minor slot. ICE ON FIRE (8) debuts off a Queanbeyan trial placing and is worth a look.

BET: Leaning to Pyramid Of Fire.

Race 4 (1400m) Bm 60

Not much between the better ones. WE ALL AGREE (6) was out-graded at Goulburn was back in business at Port Macquarie beaten a lip from the front. Finds easier grade and the speedy gallop will use the rail. Comes back in grade and can go one better. SHERWOOD'S ONE (8) was back to his best winning the Queanbeyan 58 impressively. Penza is reunited and fitter the filly is a chance to repeat. MERCURY (3) finished on from the back placing here 9-days ago. Is back 200m and will be finishing on. HOKAHEY (5) needed the run this track first-up in stronger grade. The second-up record is good and the speedy galloper will improve quickly over the longer sprint.

BET: Backing We All Agree.

Race 5 (1200m) Bm 70 - Federal

PRETTY WOMAN (3) won first-up and then missed the kick this grade/track 9-days ago bet 3-1 and couldn't get close enough. Fitter now and has plenty up the sleeve. Goes on top ahead of FANGELA (2) who is another promising local. Placed in the same race missing the hat-trick. Will race also position handy and the 2kg claim assists. HEZREDHOT (4) is a speedy galloper resuming from the rail. He's up to this at best and has won fresh. Performs this course and distance and Loy's booking suggests he's pleasing. OAMANIKKA (1) just missed in Open grade at Albury and the 3kg claim brings him into it. EUROSAY (9) was tracking well before the latest and is in the mix with Penza replacing the apprentice.

BET: Backing Pretty Woman.

Race 6 (1600m) CL1

COLOUR SERGEANT (3) resumed with a solid effort at Newcastle and this is easier. The former Irish galloper raced in Listed grade at Leopardstown prior and will enjoy the lift to the mile. Just needs to be on-song to take this out. SNEAKY ISLAND (13) peaks and go on the near-miss at Newcastle two starts back. Draws to advantage and races at peak fitness. JACK DUGGAN (4) is also fourth up and threatening. In a strong Sydney barn and Loy will give him every chance using the rail. AURORA FLORENTINA (7) is a stablemate to the top selection and will likely be better back to the mile. He can't be ruled out.

BET: Backing Colour Sergeant if the money comes.

Race 7 (1300m) CL1

OTTILIE (2) missed a lip both starts the first preparation and led recording at easy Hawkesbury Maiden win first-up. Has come off sharp Randwick trials and has the speed to make quick work of the wide barrier. In a top Sydney barn and fitter can go right on with it. SPATS PAV BOWIE (1) has been good both runs back and his ready to find his best. Has the winkers applied first-time and is a quinella hope. CALMER KARMA (3) resumed at Newcastle and has a tough run. Finally draws a low barrier and will use it. Impressed three-back on debut and Penza's booking is a push. FACE THE DAY (13) resumes and would be a chance if presented on-song. Has won fresh and draws for a soft run.

BET: Ottilie makes strong appeal.

Race 8 (1300m) Mdn

GWAN SO (3) is a former UK galloper who just missed in Listed grade at Doncaster before the spell, Just missed resuming at Goulburn as favourite and then led at Newcastle and ran out of puff late. Fitter now and the tongue tie goes on. A high stable-striker rides and will use the low gate. The colt rates to be winning for the sharp Sydney barn. PACIFIC FORCE (5) was well-trialled and found on better at Beaumont- Newcastle on debut. Draws out but is in good hands and fitter can be in the finish again. POSEIDON JEWEL (9) just missed resuming at Hawkesbury and can build on that. Will cross to the speed and give a sight. SPELLZ (13) resumes off city trials and despite the awkward gate has shown enough to suggest she won't be far away.

BET: Backing Gwan So to win.
