Racing & Sports Canberra Preview - 21 October 2022
The rail is in the true position. With plenty of rail forecast the track will likely present in the heavy range. Expect to see them tracking away from the inner as the meeting progresses. A good betting program with a few on the tricky side.
Race 1 (1400m) CL2
Competitive. SUPER RIFF (4) made up plenty of ground winning the CL1 here on the heavy. He looks well-placed to repeat for the local barn. SKY DIAMONDS (1) has just missed the last two in better grade. The latest was here on the heavy bet an 11-10F. Gets more weight but deserves the win. ZO PURRFECT (5) won the CL1 here on the heavy running a strong figure. He didn't have the best of it after in a Kembla Grange in a 64. A bounce is likely. IN DE SUN IWILCOME (2) raced handier at Kembla on the slow in a CL1 beaten 1.3L. She has trialled well here since and is also a chance.
BET: Leaning to Super Riff.
Race 2 (1400m) Bm65
AMEGDUL (1) has won his last two in country Victoria and was only beaten 1.7L on the Wagga heavy prior. The 2kg claimer helps with some of the weight lift and he's the one to beat. LOAFING (5) has been around the mark this level without winning. Came back to this trip the latest and Penza reunited is a push. LA VALKYRIE (7) has similar figures and coming back to the sprint may advantage. MY BLUE JEANS (4) is up to this at best and is also in the mix.
BET: Amegdul looks the one.
Race 3 (1400m) Mdn SW
OFFSPRING (10) just missed on the Wagga heavy on debut and then resumed on a good track at Goulburn running into the placing. Draws well and fitter she's the one to beat for the sharp local barn. ASSOCIATE (7) debuts for the Seib barn and creates plenty of interest. Has the rail and owns a Goulburn trial win. No surprise if he's fancied and races boldly. FACTORING PROFIT (1) is Offspring's stablemate and resumed in good order before finding one much too good. Gets away from Moruya and fitter is in the mix. MAGPIE CHORUS (6) is in a canny local barn and should be ready to show something. Penza's booking suggests she will. SHAFTY (3) resumes and has placed fresh. Is likely to have come on and won't be far away.
BET: Backing Offspring.
Race 4 (2000m) Cl1 SW
AUTISSIER (4) improved sharply second-up winning the Moruya Maiden as expected over the mile on a heavy surface. She will be fitter again and tipping she will see the extra trip right out. Respect the high-striking Heywood-Dale linkage. MANDALONG MISSILE (7) was a strong city trial winner and easily ran his best race winning the Goulburn Maiden at the mile. She will use the low gate and is well-seasoned for her first go over a middle distance. SOROKIN (3) will be at top now and go on the lip defeat two-back at Forbes. Has a near-miss this on the Gosford heavy this distance In the CV. CRAZY LADIES (5) just missed twice this distance range before enduring a tough run at Goulburn. Likes wet tracks and expect a much better effort. The two John O'Shea-trained debutants are a betting watch.
BET: Autissier gets the nod in a tricky race.
Race 5 (1200m) Mdn
A tricky form assignment. Of the ones we've seen GLOWING GOLD (12) makes appeals off the debut placing at Bathurst (slow). Must manage an outside gate but has the blinkers applied first time and is in one of the nation's best barns. OBLIQUE (5) has been threatening on slow tracks at Kembla Grange. This suits and he should go close. FLYING FLOSSY (11) debuted on a slow track at Goulburn and was just outside the placings. She runs along and is a hope with the extra fitness. BUSH (10) resumes for the Widdup barn with two trials under the belt. Has Penza and the blinkers applied first time and no surprise if he races well. FIELD MARSHAL (7) is a Sydney-trained debutant who has been well-trialled. A betting watch as well.
BET: With Glowing Gold.
Race 6 (1200m) Cl1
ANCHORAGE (5) can win this at best and will be much better second-up. The longer sprint suits and Penza rides for the top local barn. Has raced well on the slow but untried on the heavy. RUBIGAL (3) led and won the Maiden easily at Tuncurry (heavy) bet a 1-2F. She has trialled well in the city since and has more to give. A decent chance to repeat. GEMINIDS (6) just missed before winning the Maiden easily here bet an 11-8F and will be better for it. Has to push forward from a wide barrier today but looks right in it. VAAROOM (4) resumes and is up to winning if on-song. Jury out if it's a deep track but he will ride the speed from the handy gate and is a betting watch.
BET: Backing Anchorage.
Race 7 (1000m) Bm60
ENZINA (12) won two city trials and then was on-speed delivering the Hawkesbury Maiden on debut on the slow. She will push forward, and fitter can take the next step for a top national barn. MISS HOFF (6) is also in good Sydney hands and was just nudged out here this grade first-up as an equal favourite. She has trialled since and is sure to have come on. Handles the heavy and using the rail should go close. LUNAR SOLAR (8) resumes in easier grade and was an easy Wangaratta Maiden winner when last fresh. Was just lipped out two-back in a Mornington 64 on the heavy and is in well with the 2kg claim. Keep very safe. MERC (7) was back on track winning the 58 on resumption. Handles slow and is a chance to go on.
BET: Leaning to Enzina.
Race 8 (1600m) Bm70 - Federal
Competitive. RENT A ROCK (2) almost made it four in a row at Goulburn beaten a nose at Goulburn. Heywood goes on for the apprentice and a wet track won't worry him. This is harder but he's a decent chance to bounce. NIECES AND NEPHEWS (1) has to carry a big weight but is knocking on the door. He was just beaten here two runs back this grade and trip on the heavy and that reads best. Draws awkwardly but has the speed to manage. DESHAWN (6) draws to get favours and his form in lesser grade also reads well. A winning chance. WICHITA WARRIOR (5) was out graded in town the latest but missed a nose in the 65 here prior on the heavy. Is back in trip but is a chance all the same.
BET: Going with Rent A Rock.
Race 9 (1200m) Open
RIDDLERO (11) looks one of the better bets on the card. He was beaten less than 3L in Listed grade before the spell and then just missed on the Wagga heavy on resumption bet a 4-5F. He performs second-up and has plenty up the sleeve. Gets in light with the 2kg claim. SECRETIVELY (14) switched to Matt Dale from a Sydney barn and resumed well-supported on the heavy at Moruya and didn't have the best of it. Second-up is no bother and he has strong metropolitan back-form. Penza's booking suggests he's on-song. FANGELA (8) resumes for another leading Canberra barn and the fresh record is good. Gets in well with the 2kg claim. MORALIST (7) continues to race well. Missed a lip here this grade two-back on the heavy and was only beaten 1.3L after in a Warwick Farm 72. She runs along and will need some luck crossing from an outside gate.
BET: Backing Riddlero to win.
