Racing & Sports Canberra Preview - 21 October 2021
Rain is forecast through to race day. A wet surface is likely. Most of the races are very competitive and there should be decent value finding the winners.
Race 1 (1000m) Mdn
MANDALONG CASH (7) must come back to a shorter sprint but rates strongly off the two Goulburn efforts. Has a wide gate but he finds the right race.
SERB ALERT (11) is an obvious threat. Will race handy and has gone close the last two. Races well here and will is at peak fitness.
KEYNES TIME (5) resumes and wasn't beaten far at Wagga before spelling. Will have come on and can get the run of the race.
JOEY JAWS (1) is a local who's switched from a Victorian yard. Has raced intractably all three starts. Gets a low gate and the market should tell if he's been sorted out.
BET: Backing Mandalong Cash.
Race 2 (1000m) Bm 60
EXAGGERATE (3) led missing a lip here in better class and held on the place at Nowra also in stronger grade. Has a handy 3kg claim today and will run along. Deserves the win and gets another chance.
REVOLVER (4) reaches peak fitness and go on the close-up placing here two-back. He's also suited around this circuit and can make the finish.
DEVIATE (5) beat the above home in that contest was plain at Goulburn the run after unfancied. This suits better and she draws to advantage with a 2kg claim.
FANTINI (7) has switched yards on a 37-day return. Rates strongly off the first-up win at Coffs Harbour but has been plain the two starts since. Gets some key gear changes and is capable of racing handy with a clean jump. She’s a betting watch.
BET: Exaggerate gets the nod.
Race 3 (900m) CL1
A good contest.
NEPHRADIVA (5) was just beaten here first-up as favourite running along. She will be better for that outing and has more up the sleeve. She has the speed to manage the sticky gate. In a sharp Canberra yard and gets another chance.
MONTE DI FIORE (2) also races handy and has been nudged out the last three with the latest here. Raced favourite in that and is a live chance reaching peak fitness.
PRUSCINO (3) is in the top local barn and brings strong form to resumption. Lightly raced and is sure to have come on.
LONDON GAL (4) is third-up and building for the new barn. Can box seat and Cahill sticking aboard is a plus. A player as well.
WHASIR (1) is up to this but has been plain in better races since the Newcastle Maiden win. Draws well and is a market watch.
BET: Leaning to Nephradiva.
Race 4 (2000m) Bm 60
Competitive.
POETIC POWER (8) won here this trip heavily bet and came back and disappointed racing favourite again. Prepared to forgive that and the winning rider goes back on. Draws for the run of the race and gets another chance.
CLUB LEGEND (4) has been around the mark at the mile and has won at a middle distance. Rates well and draws to advantage. No surprise if he makes the finish.
SAINT HENRY (6) disappointed at Albury but the win and placings prior stack right up. Keeps Cahill and gets the blinkers first time. The lift to the 2000m shouldn't disadvantage.
ROOM NUMBER (9) will get back but has been knocking on the door and is in the mix.
BET: Backing both Poetic Power and Club Legend.
Race 5 (1460m) Mdn
MURKOWSKI (11) runs along and surprised the market beaten 1L at Wagga on debut (heavy track). Will be fitter and the local has the speed to manage the outside barrier. Looks capable of going one better.
PANDERING (6) wins this at best and should be ready to fire over the longer sprint. Keeps Ward and this Maiden isn't particularly strong.
SWISS PROMISE (3) was a well-bet favourite here for the new barn and didn't feature. Must be showing something and Cahill sticks. That's a push and he's worth another chance.
SECADIA (2) comes back to a sprint. Can make the finish at best.
BET: With Murkowski in a tricky contest.
Race 6 (1200m) Open - Federal
WASHINGTON TOWERS (1) gest to peak fitness and is the one to beat off a much stronger race at Rosehill. Improved again missing a whisker here prior in the 75 and Budler's 1.5kg claim assists. Races handy and will take plenty of passing.
GIRLS ARE READY (4) resumes for the leading local barn and is feared. Goes fresh and has won 3/5 this trip. Draws handy and the betting will reflect her readiness.
HEZREDHOT (6) reaches peak fitness and is tracking well. Has more to give off the Goulburn placings and drops 2.5kg. Keeps Cahill and is a player.
EXAGGERATE (11) brings a string of placings and will run along from the low gate. Gets weight relief at this level and is a hope.
BET: Backing Washington Towers to win.
Race 7 (1460m) CL2
An open contest.
SLY SONG (5) made sharp improvement when just nudged out here against her own sex. Keeps Ward and gets weight relief at this level. Fitter again and rates to go close drawn to advantage.
BRING IT BELLA (1) won here and then improved again beaten 1.1L against the above. The local also draws well and can bounce back reaching peak fitness.
MANDALONG BEYOND (2) also raced in that contest and will be better for it. He's up to this and deserves serious consideration.
STRATUM PRIDE (7) comes out of the same race and was okay improving off the Maiden win also at this track. A hope if she doesn't get strung up from the rail.
