Perfect opportunity to find elusive win

Perfect Pitch may have found the perfect race in Friday’s TAB Federal (1200m). The Keith Dryden-trained mare was second behind the Zelago last start on John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes Day and second three starts back in a TAB Highway. The renowned bridesmaid has won just twice in her 36 start career but there is no doubting her talent given her $251,848 in earnings and 15 placings.

Perfect Pitch once again meets the Barbara Jospeh, Paul & Matt Jones-trained Zelago in Friday’s TAB Federal (1200m), this time 2.5kgs better off in the weights and Trainer Keith Dryden likes her chances despite the drop in distance.

“It’s probably the only knock on her I’d say” Dryden said of the drop from 1400m to 1200m. “We’ve freshened her up though with just a bit over a month off so she’ll be sharp enough for this.”

“She’s going really well, she’s a really consistent mare and the staff here have got her in fantastic order.”

The now six-year-old daughter of Pierro won her second start as a two-year-old at Rosehill and spent time in the Gary Portelli stable before Owners Laurel Oak Bloodstock moved her down the Federal Highway to Dryden. Her record since her move to Thoroughbred Park reads an impressive 16 starts for one win and eight placings.

The TAB Federal (1200m) is Race Six on Friday’s program and is due at 3:40pm.

Earlier in the day, Nick Olive will be hoping the penny has dropped for Jack The Brumby. A source of frustration for Olive, Jack The Brumby, before winning at Sapphire Coast last start, had run six second placings from eight starts was without a victory. Up in grade, the four-year-old gelding will take his place in the Exact Electrical Plate, a Class 1 over the 1600m where he will partner Billy Owen.

Friday is West Belconnen Warriors RLFC Day at Thoroughbred Park and will get underway with the Core Developments Handicap at 12:40pm.
