Nick Olive celebrates 800th career winner

The Canberra Racing Club congratulates Group 1 winning Trainer Nick Olive who trained his 800th career winner over the weekend.

Olive celebrated his 799th winner on Saturday with Spicy Lu leading all the way in the Listed Princess Stakes at Eagle Farm and did not have to wait long to enjoy his 800th.

Less than an hour later and 740km from Eagle Farm, Wal’s Angel was too strong at Bathurst in the RSL Soldier’s Saddle to continue Olive’s amazing 2025/2026 season.

Olive who began his Training career back in 2000 returned to Canberra after a training stint in Queanbeyan and is currently having his best season to date striking at over 20% with 44 winners.

“We just keep trying to do the best for each individual horse and the winners keep coming.” Olive said.

“There’s just a great atmosphere around the stable, I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.”

“Over the years I’ve had such great support from some great clients and I’ve always had a consistent and strong staff and group of riders.

Olive trained Canberra’s darling mare Single Gaze to Group 1 glory, winning the 2016 Vinery. She also finished 2nd in the 2018 Caulfield Cup.

“Some other really special moments were Voice Commander’s Wagga Cup win (2011) and Capital Commander’s win in the Magic Millions Mares race (2012), they were both massive for me.”

Canberra Racing Club Chief Executive Darren Pearce said, “Racing is so fast paced we don’t always pause to celebrate milestones but this is one worth savouring.”

“Nick is a wonderful ambassador of our sport and we are delighted that he once again calls Thoroughbred Park home.”

“800 career winners is a massive achievement and being his best season on record so far, it seems there are plenty more to come.”
