A new team to guide Canberra Racing Club

A new Chair and a revitalised committee are set to build on the Canberra Racing Club’s premier position in thoroughbred racing and the local community.

The Annual General Meeting of members of the Club held at Thoroughbred Park on Tuesday night 11 October saw the election of six candidates to the Committee of ten.

The Committee members elected by members of the Club are Les Boag, Liz Clarke, Emmanuel Notaras, Matthew Ryan, Daniel Gaul and Greg Friedewald.

Following the election, the committee of ten voted to appoint their Executive with Les Boag (Chair), Liz Clarke (Vice Chair) and Duncan Edghill (Treasurer) elected unanimously.

Incoming Chair Les Boag said: “I am pleased and honoured to be taking on this responsibility at such a pivotal time for the Canberra Racing Club. I am confident that this new and enthusiastic Committee will be able to work together in a way that strengthens the Club and takes advantage of all opportunities to cement the Club and Thoroughbred Park as vibrant assets for the racing community and the Canberra community at large.”

The Chief Executive Officer of the Club, Darren Pearce, said: “I congratulate the new Chair and Committee Members on their election, and I look forward to working with them all. I thank them for volunteering to play a role in the important strategic work we need to do to build on the achievements of the past and create a bright new future for the Club, its supporters, the Thoroughbred Park precinct, and the people of Canberra.”

“I also wish to thank the outgoing Chair, Tim Olive, for his outstanding contribution to the Club, as well as Ian Mackay who also served as Chair,” Mr Pearce said.
