To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Black Opal Stakes, we have assembled panel to decide a 12 horse field featuring the best Black Opal Stakes winners and to determine the winner of the 'Best Ever Black Opal' 

John Tapp, who called the inaugural Black Opal Stakes in 1973, will perform a phantom call of the 'Best Ever Black Opal' at the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Cocktail Party on Thursday, 2 March 2023.
