A Crucial player in the TAB Federal
Crucial Witness enters Friday’s TAB Federal (1400m) on a clear path towards the Wagga Carnival’s $75,000 Queen of the South (1400m) in a fortnight’s time. A race for the premier fillies and mares in the region, Trainer Gratz Vella is confident his mare is up to the task.
Crucial Witness has been knocking on the door with three second placings in a row including a strong first-up performance behind Distillate over the unsuitable 1000m at Thoroughbred Park on 8 April.
Boasting a brilliant record when second-up (3: 2-1-0) Trainer Gratz Vella believes his daughter of Star Witness is a top hope in Friday’s feature race.
“She was great first-up over the 1000m which is too short for her.” Vella said. “I’m really happy with her progress and I think she’s a great chance here on Friday.”
“Brodie Loy has the ride and he’ll take great care of her. She’s drawn perfectly (Barrier 2) so I am sure she’ll run well.”
Crucial Witness has a great record on her home track with a win and four seconds from her eight starts. She will have to be at her best in what is another quality edition of the TAB Federal.
Mick Miladinovic’s mare Milamoo must represent a live chance once again after her two quality performances this preparation. Once again, utilising in-form apprentice Teaghan Martin’s 3kg claim, Milamoo is drawn perfectly in Barrier 6.
Later in the day, the crowd will be treated to the return of star galloper Handle The Truth who will line up in a trial.
The TAB Federal is Race Five on the program and us due to jump at 2:45pm. Racing begins at Thoroughbred Park on Friday at 12:15pm.
