Cracking Canberra Preview by Neil Evans - 23 June 2023

*RACE 1 @ 12.00pm REDBANK NORTH CLASS 1 PLATE (1900m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 3. TALLINGAS PRINCE (Ben Brisbourne/Ms hannah Edgley a0kg; 57.5kg & barrier 3) -We start over the longer journey on the synthetic & keen to back this Victorian country 3YO by Inference up in distance behind a narrow maiden win 17 days ago at only his 2nd start. Bred to run this out, and gets the superior spot on map over his main rival

DANGERS: 2. **Sugoi Legend; 5. *Lynber

Likely Tempo: Moderate to Fair

My BET PLAN: TALLINGAS PRINCE to WIn & Quinella: 2 and 3

*RACE 2 @ 12.35pm JOHN McGRAH AUTO GROUP MAIDEN HCP (1080m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 6. SHECANMIXIT (Darryl Rolfe/Damon Budler a0kg; 55.5kg & barrier 1) -Like this honest home track 4YO mare by Danerich coming back in trip & returning to a much drier surface. Struggled in heavy ground at Wagga under a bigger weight, but drawn to get a much softer run here in a weak affair, & she's hard fit deep into the prep

DANGERS: 1. *Missile Leader; 2. *Inveterate; 4. *Light Press

Likely Tempo: Solid to Good

My BET PLAN: SHECANMIXIT to WIN

*RACE 3 @ 1.10pm IRON JACK BENCHMARK 65 HCP (1750m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 3. VERBEK (Robert & Luke Price/Ms Olivia Chambers a2kg; 59.5kg & barrier 2) -Tricky distance here & not much between a few of them. Keen to back this tough 4YO by good staying sire Turn Me Loose dropping in grade significantly 4th-up. Worked home okay from midfield in a Midway BM 72 metro race before finishing down the track in much tougher city company. The rise in distance is pivotal & he gets a nice run back in the field with cover

DANGERS: 6. *Region Time; 7. *Turnaround Time; 8. *Layla Of Monaco

Likely Tempo: Reasonable

My BET PLAN: VERBEK to WIN

*RACE 4 @ 1.45pm THOROUGHBRED PARK FUNCTION CENTRE BENCHMARK 60 HCP (1080m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 1. HEART OF VANCOUVER (John Nisbet/Jordan Mallyon; 61kg & barrier 3) -This resuming & lightly raced home track 3YO by 2015 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver looms as one of the best bets all day. Hasn't started since disappointing in a CL2 in early March, but comes to hand in a heartbeat. Draws to get the right path here, and is unbeaten from 2 fresh starts so far

DANGERS: 2. *Vaaroom; 3. *Lethal Lady;

Likely Tempo: Good

My BET PLAN: HEART OF VANCOUVER to WIN

*RACE 5 @ 2.25pm TAB SAME RACE MULTI MAIDEN PLATE (1280m) - Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 11. TAVOLO (Rob Potter/damon Budler a0kg; 57kg & barrer 4) -Hard to see this progressive 4YO local mare by Zariz being beaten, returning home at her 3rd start. Missed narrowly on debut at Albury before working home well behind a smart country winner who then scored again at the provincial Beaumont meeting on Monday. That form reads very well for this, and she can settle around midfield here off the fence before producing a dominant final 400m finish

DANGERS: 4. *Rangatira; 9. *Good Kitty

Likely Tempo: Solid

My BET PLAN: TAVOLO to WIN & Quinella: 7 and 9

*RACE 6 @ 3.05pm CONGRATULATIONS 300 GAMES JARROD CROKER CLASS 1 HCP (1280m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 5. WAGUNDA (Nick Olive/Billy Owen; 57kg & barrier 5) -Not much between a few of these in a moderate affair, but like this home track 4YO by Wandjina who can score a 2nd career win 3rd-up off a 7 week break. Held his ground okay just behind the placegetters in a deeper BM 58 11 days ago, and is well treated only 2kg over the limit weight

DANGERS: 2. *Star To Fall; 3. *Calmer Karma

Likely Tempo: Reasonable

My BET PLAN: WAGUNDA to WIN

*RACE 7 @ 3.40pm TAB FEDERAL BENCHMARK 70 HCP (1206m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 3. LOUIE'S LEGACY (Barbara Joseph; Paul & Matt Jones/Quayde Krogh; 60kg & barrier 5) -The feature Federal sprint shapes up nicely for this capable local 4YO by The Factor 3 weeks after he went down narrowly in a strong country BM 74. Had previously campaigned against metro opposition, and the drop back in distance on preferred dryer ground in a thinner field, comes at the perfect time. Settles midfield one off the fence before finishing best

DANGERS: 1. *Emma's Gift; 6. *Devine Miss; 8. *Accrue; 9. *Star To Fall

Likely Tempo: Solid Good

My BET PLAN: LOUIE'S LEGACY to WIN

*RACE 8 @ 4.10pm AFFINITY ELECTRICAL TECHNOLOGIES BENCHMARK 50 HCP (1206m) - Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

TOP SELECTION: 1. WHITE LIAR (Rob potter/Olivia Chambers a2kg; 60kg & barrier 10) -We close the meeting over the same trip in much weaker grade & it augurs well for this home track 5YO mare by Wandjina who can go back-to-back after a tough BM 58 win when reloading off a 7 week break. Looks well treated after the claim back at this level & as long as she gets across from a tricky draw okay; can add a 4th career win at her 24th start

DANGERS: 2. *Epaullo Creed; 6. *Spirited King

Likely Tempo: Solid

My BET PLAN: WHITE LIAR to WIN
