Cracking Canberra Preview 30 September 2020 by Neil Evans

*RACE 1 @ 1.39pm HYGAIN THE BEST REPS AROUND HCP (1400m) - Maiden; Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

We start a good card with some handy maidens. Warwick Farm 4YO 1. ZARZOU (Brodie Loy; 59kg) now with the Annabel Neasham stable is bursting to win one after four runs this prep. Has been right in the market working home behind some smart ones, and has since had a change of stable. Draws to get a trail just off the speed, and is the one to beat!

*MAIN DANGERS: Improving local 4YO mare 2. Wandonna should have won third-up at Moruya when held up badly before charging home late, and returning to this longer trip is ideal. Be shocked if anything else wins, although watch the betting on Warwick Farm mare 3. Grey Mantra who was heavily backed before dropping out with problems at Orange, and gets blinkers on for only her third start.

Likely Tempo: Solid

My Betting Attack: ZARZOU to WIN & Quinella: 1 and 2

*RACE 2 @ 2.14pm HYGAIN FEED & SUPPLEMENTS HCP (1000m) - BenchMark 65; Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

Small but competitive field over the short course. Keen on Gosford mare 3. MORNAY (Ashley Morgan; 58.5kg) from the Luke Hilton yard coming back in distance off a five week freshen-up. Flew home to win a CL3 at Dubbo three runs back, and was only plain at Doomben last time out, but her best form is clearly on the fresher side.

*MAIN DANGERS: Albury 5YO 1. Galaxy Force is building a nice record, and will appreciate dropping back from a hot Highway where he was outclassed. Had previously surged home to win a BM 58 at Wagga, but more depth here and prefers genuinely wet tracks. Boorowa 7YO 4. Revolver can mix his form, but this is his pret trip; while Hawkesbury 6YO 5. Charlie Chap charged home late here under 61kg, but this is tougher, and unlikely to get the pace on up front to suit his finishing pattern.

Likely Tempo: Moderate to Fair

My Betting Attack: MORNAY to WIN

*RACE 3 @ 2.49pm HYGAIN RECUPERATE ELECTROLYTE HCP (1400m) - Class 1; Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

This looks ideal for 5YO gelding 1. CANYONERO (Shaun Guymer; 60kg) from the Richard Litt stable at Warwick Farm. Hard to believe he's still only won once from 26 starts, but placed a further 14 times, often charging through the line without luck. Swept home to just miss in a BM 64 at Kembla before closing off again and pulling up lame. Draws to get good cover back in the field, and a much stronger rider goes on.

*MAIN DANGERS: Big watch on Warwick Farm filly 4. Arctic Thunder who defied a betting drift to win here on debut, and both the sire Headwater and trainer are striking regularly. Improving local 3YO 5. Astrobleme surged home to win his maiden at Wagga before again strong late at Moruya behind Scarleo who then won Saturday's Highway at Rosehill. Include 4YO home track mare 6. In My Wallet who capped some consistent closing runs by landing her maiden impressively at Wagga, and gets a 2kg weight drop back at home.

Likely Tempo: Solid

My Betting Attack: CANYONERO to WIN & Trifecta: 1,4,5/1,4,5,6/1,4,5,6

*RACE 4 @ 3.24pm HYGAIN SUPPORTS THE ACT HCP (1600m) - BenchMark 60; Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

Sticking with progressive 4YO local mare 5. TEMOIN CHAUD (Blaike McDougall; 58kg) from the Nick Olive yard third-up and out to the mile. Ran to her market drift second-up here when only fair to the line after covering ground, but draws to get a cosy trail this time, and can bounce back.

*MAIN DANGERS: Gosford mare 2. Buckle Up Baby is hard and fit, and a clear threat over this distance after doing her best work late in a handy Class 3 at Dubbo. Albury 7YO 4. Hail The Hero will also relish the longer journey after closing off hard in the BM 68 Griffith Cup, and trainer has made gear changes; while local 6YO 3. Eaglehawk was solidly backed second-up in the same race as the top selection when boxing on okay, and more ground is a plus.

Likely Tempo: Moderate to Solid

My Betting Attack: TEMOIN CHAUD to WIN

*RACE 5 @ 3.59pm HYGAIN THE HIGHEST STANDARD PLATE (2000m) - Class 1; Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

Intriguing albeit thin cat-and mouse battle over the longer trip augurs well for improving Albury 4YO 1. HIGH ADVICE (Blaike McDougall; 59kg) from the Donna Scott yard out in distance, and with the blinkers coming off. Has hit the line late in his last two under the same weight, and will appreciate the bigger track as long as there's not too much rain.

*MAIN DANGERS: Improving home track 5YO 2. Mohahna finally landed his maiden here careering away over the mile, and although he's hard fit, some query over this distance up to 59kg. Local 7YO 3. Jophiel has been threatening to break the maiden for a while, and stays at this distance for the third straight run.

Likely Tempo: Fair

My Betting Attack: HIGH ADVICE to WIN

*RACE 6 @ 4.34pm TAB FEDERAL HCP (1300m) - BenchMark 70; Min Weight 55kg; Apprentices Can Claim:

Feature race of the day, with typically a stack of chances. Like the third-up placement here for lightly-raced Albury 4YO 9. MNEMENTH (Jordan Mallyon; 56kg) trained by Mitchell Beer. Found one stronger late in a BM 58 at Corowa, and while this is tougher, he's still on the up and drops sharply in weight.

*MAIN DANGERS: Impossible to knock ultra consistent 7YO local gelding 4. Our Finvarra who hasn't missed a place in his last four, and comes off a smart Federal win 12 days ago. Progressive Goulburn 5YO 6. Clearly Regal can peak third-up after working home okay behind the current Kosciuszko favourite in a high class Highway. Big market watch on resuming home track mare 10. Mookareena who hasn't publicly trialled, but done plenty of work and two of her three career wins have come fresh. Improving local 5YO 5. Royal Monarch won a Class 2 at Gundagai before looming to win that latest Federal, but just found the winner stronger in the final drive. Draws to get another handy trail. Local 7YO 7. Imitation Girl roared home to upset the top selection at Corowa, and is drawn to be in the finish again; while Albury 7YO 3. Supplyzing comes off a tough win in the Griffith Cup third-up.

Likely Tempo: Solid to Good

My Betting Attack: MNEMENTH Each Way & First Four: 4,6,9/4,5,6,9,10/3,4,5,6,7,9,10/3,4,5,6,7,9,10

*RACE 7 @ 5.09pm HYGAIN NON OAT RELEASE PLATE (1200m) - Maiden; Set Weights; Apprentices Can Claim:

Back to the maidens at set weights to finish, and home track 4YO 1. ONE MAN BAND (Brodie Loy; 59kg) from the Matt Dale yard can strike coming back in trip and four weeks between runs. Didn't finish it off over the mile at Albury, but before that went close in two handy runs over a similar distance at Moruya.

*MAIN DANGERS: Promising Warwick Farm filly 12. Super One Susie is the clear threat resuming off two trials, and will find this a lot easier than metro company she tackled in autumn. Local 5YO 2. Promesa can improve second-up after an even effort in the heavy at Wagga.

Likely Tempo: Solid

My Betting Attack: ONE MAN BAND to WIN & Quinella: 1 and 12
