Cracking Canberra Preview 3 June 2020 - Neil Evans

1st Race @ 12.29pm

Track likely Soft 5 and Rail out 2m so on or just off the speed early before trending wider

RACE 1 @ 12.29pm HYGAIN RELEASE HCP (1000m) - BM 65; Min Weight 55.5kg & apprentices can claim.

We begin with a very competitive sprint, and smart 6YO local mare 1. BALLISTA (Doug Gorrel/Ms Heni Ede a3kg, 60.5kg) can strike here third-up after charging home late in stronger BM 70 at Warwick Farm. Sharp rise to hefty weight crucially off-set with a 3kg claim.

MAIN DANGERS: Tough and under-rated Boorowa 6YO 4. Revolver has finished close-up in three runs this prep, and draws to get a charmed run behind the speed. Home track 7YO 2. Prince Jacko can be hard to catch but motored home to win a similar race here last start. Should get good speed on up front again, and with rookie rider claiming 4kg, can get home late again; while Warwick Farm mare 6. Snitzagirl can also bounce back after disappointing over the short course at Newcastle.

Likely tempo: Good to Strong

My Betting Attack: BALLISTA to Win & Quinella 1 and 4

RACE 2 @ 1.04pm HYGAIN MICRSPEED HCP (1300m) - Maiden; Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim:

Back to the maidens in a tricky affair, but 3YO Randwick filly 7. HIT THE HIGH NOTE (Peter & Paul Snowden/Adrian Layt; 56.5kg) can break through at third start. Will find this easier after two efforts in handy provincial company, and draws to coil up on the fence behind the speed.

MAIN DANGERS: Expect Rosehill filly 8. Swahili Mai to improve sharply after dropping out first-up in a tougher maiden at Wyong. Watch the betting on local 3YO gelding 3. Woodson (Fighting Sun x Lambeau by Oratorio) who debuts off a dominant soft track trial win; while Wagga 5YO 1. Just Business has had three runs back, and at his best on this sort of rating, but tough task from a wide barrier.

Likely Tempo: Moderate to Solid

My Betting Attack: HIT THE HIGH NOTE to Win

RACE 3 @ 1.39pm HYGAIN PLATE (1000m) - Maiden; Set Weights & apprentices can claim:

Intriguing and open sprint with several first starters on show. One of those, 3YO Moruya filly 8. SIFU (The Brothers War x Rocken Laura by Easy Rocking for Natalie Jarvis/Ms Jess Taylor; 57kg) looked a good one in the making winning a recent home trial under a nice hold. Stable good at placing them early.

MAIN DANGERS: Goulburn mare 11. Turfeze hit the line well second-up at Queanbeyan, and looks primed to strike from the inside draw. Debutant Goulburn filly 4. Kez (Zoffany x Not A Token Woman by Encosta de Lago) has trialed okay for leading country stable. Another first starter trained on the track 10. Trust The Gut (Trusting x Gorgeous Dancer by Grand Lodge) was close-up in the second of two trials, and draws to get early cover. Big market watch on Goulburn filly 3. Earp who resumes off a six month break without a public trial, but reportedly done plenty of work, and draws to get a handy trail just off the speed. Local 3YO filly 7. Serb Alert has been placed in all three runs in her first prep, but big query from a wide gate with plenty of speed underneath. Expecting a better run from sparingly-raced Kembla 4YO 1. Cops And Robbers who hasn't shirked the task in last few across deeper opposition.

Likely Tempo: Strong

My Betting Attack: SIFU Each Way & FIRST FOUR: 4,8,11/1,3,4,8,10,11/1,3,4,7,8,10,11/1,3,4,7,8,10,11

RACE 4 @ 2.14pm HYGAIN TRACKTORQUE HCP (1200m) - BM 60; Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim:

Keen on 4YO Wagga gelding 2. LET'S GET ANIMAL (Trevor Sutherland/Ms Danielle Scott a3kg; 58.5kg) who made late ground at Albury in a BM 66, although a little disappointed he didn't run over the top of them. Had roared home previously to win a BM 58 at Wagga, and better suited getting back on to the bigger track.

MAIN DANGERS: Queanbeyan mare 1. Katie Did It has plenty of ability, and will find this more to her liking after dropping out resuming in the Belle of the South at Goulburn on a Heavy 9. Home track 4YO mare 4. Irresistable Girl should be at peak fitness now, and draws the fence, but this is as far as she wants. Local 3YO 8. Mas Dinero took a while to land his maiden at Parkes, but that was off a freshen-up, and rise to 1200m on home track is a plus. Warwick Farm filly 3. For Love who steps up in trip; and South Coast 4YO 7. Thornbrook who hit the line late third-up in a BM 58 at Goulburn; are clear best of the rest.

Likely Tempo: Solid

My Betting Attack: LET'S GET ANIMAL to Win

RACE 5 @ 2.49pm HYGAIN POWATORQUE HCP (1000m) - Class 1; Min Weight 55kg & apprentices can claim:

Progressive 3YO Randwick gelding 1. MISSILE MAGIC (Peter & Paul Snowden/Adrian Layt; 62kg) can go close third-up from an ideal draw, despite a sharp rise in weight. Charged home to win his maiden first-up at Hawkesbury before holding his own in a stronger BM 64 likely to prove a smart form race.

MAIN DANGERS: Improving Warwick Farm filly 2. April Storm is also well placed after a narrow maiden win at Kembla, and winkers go on. Watch the betting on Moruya 4YO 3. Pinch Memory who resumes off a long break with no public trial, but generally comes to hand quickly, and draws a nice gate with a 2kg claim. Another one first-up, local 3YO 7. Bro also hasn't officially trialed, but only career win so far came fresh on Australia Day rocketing home to win his maiden at Wagga.

Likely Tempo: Good to Strong

My Betting Attack: MISSILE MAGIC to Win & Box TRI: 1,2,3,7

RACE 6 @ 3.24pm TAB FEDERAL (1300m) - BM 70 Hcp; Min Weight 56kg & apprentices can claim:

Another terrific and open edition of the Federal, typically with several chances. While not totally convinced the inside barrier will suit home-track 3YO filly 5. ROCKAROSA (Keith Dryden/Jay Ford; 59.5kg), she's in superior form rattling home to win the Queen Of The South at Wagga before again strong late in metro BM 70 grade after having little luck when it counted, and stable is flying.

MAIN DANGERS: Don't under-state rival local 6YO mare 3. Belfast Bella who resumes off a lengthy break and nice trial for leading yard and fresh record in good company is sound. Another local, 4YO 9. Acton Shale has never raced better winning a CL3 at Wagga before careering away in a BM 66 at Queanbeyan, although more depth to overcome here; while 6YO 6. Balonne - stablemate to Rockarosa - was a dominant winner in similar grade here two runs back before failing to run on at Warwick Farm. Goulburn 5YO 10. Equal Balance is clear best of the rest after finishing on late resuming in a Highway at Randwick.

Likely Tempo: Solid to Good

My Betting Attack: ROCKAROSA to Win & TRI: 3,5,9/3,5,6,9,10/3,5,6,9,10

RACE 7 @ 3.59pm HYGAIN RACETORQUE PLATE (1600m) - Class 1; Set Weights & apprentices can claim:

We close out the meeting with an open tussle over the mile. South Coast-based 4YO gelding 1. LORD DESANIMAUX (Terry Robinson/Blaike McDougall; 59kg) looks ready to win fourth-up getting to ideal distance. Has hit the line from well back in consecutive metro Highways, and won't be as far away here on the turn from an ideal draw. The one to beat!

MAIN DANGERS: Promising local 3YO 4. Dream Runner steps up from a dominant maiden win on debut; while Warwick Farm mare 6. Dream Maiden is also a threat third-up after finishing nicely to claim his maiden at Kembla over this trip, although will need some early luck from a wide draw.

Likely Tempo: Moderate to Solid

My Betting Attack: Lord Desanimaux to Win
