The Carbine Club of the ACT in conjunction with the Canberra Racing Club present the Black Opal Stakes Luncheon on Friday 8 March at the National Press Club of Australia in Barton. The luncheon coincides with the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday 10 March.

The luncheon is open to members and guests and commences at 12 noon for a 12.40pm seating, concluding at around 4pm. The cost is $170 per person which covers a 2-course meal and all beverages including some very fine wines.

I’m pleased to announce our special guest speaker at the luncheon will be Greg Hall, nicknamed “The G”, is a retired Australian jockey who is best known for riding Subzero to victory in the 1992 Melbourne Cup. Greg won a Melbourne Cup, a Cox Plate, two Golden Slippers and two Victoria Derbies riding for the likes of Lloyd Williams, Sheikh Mohammed & Kerry Packer to name a few. Greg rode an amazing 49 Group 1 winners in his career.

We are also fortunate to have Adam Sangster, President of the ‘Mother Club’ the Carbine Club in Victoria join us on the day. Adam is well known in the racing industry as the owner of Swettenham Stud and is the son of legendary racehorse owner and breeder Robert Sangster.

The racing panel will be back hosted by Racing and Sports Simon Dinopoulos and TAB will also be running some great promotions.
