Canberra Raiders duo announced as new Thoroughbred Park ambassadors

In a major coup for local racing, the Canberra Racing Club is thrilled to announce Canberra Raiders captain Jarrod Croker and halfback Sam Williams as Thoroughbred Park ambassadors for the 2021/2022 season.

Canberra Racing Club Chief Operating Officer Amy Squires was delighted to welcome the pair on-board. “Jarrod and Sam are wonderful footballers who have led sparkling careers but more importantly they’re wonderful people with excellent reputations.” Ms. Squires said.

“They’re both household names here in the nation’s capital and being passionate about their horse racing meant it was just the perfect fit.”

With a number of new innovations, the upcoming racing season is shaping to be one Canberra’s biggest and best with both Jarrod and Sam excited at the prospects of the next twelve months.

“I’m a big racing fan and I’ve always loved coming out to Thoroughbred Park.” Croker said. “The Club has always been welcoming so I’m excited to be apart of what is a really exciting time for horse racing in Canberra.”

The Club will introduce a number of new race days in 2021/2022 with a beer festival, ‘Hops & Hooves Festival’ to coincide with a race meeting on Saturday 25 September. Thoroughbred Park will once again host a Students Race Day in October and will become one of the only venues in the country to race on Good Friday in 2022.

Sam Williams who will play his 100th NRL game for his beloved Canberra Raiders on Saturday 3 July shares his captain’s enthusiasm for his new partnership with Thoroughbred Park.

“It’s a really exciting time for the local racing community with a number of new race days for the Canberra community to get around.” Williams said.

“Like Jarrod, I love my racing and I’m really keen to be involved here as an ambassador and help promote racing around town.”
