Canberra Racing Preview - January 8th 2019
The rail pushes out 6m for the entire and we race on a good surface. Smoke in the capital has been heavy the past fortnight but with blue skies produced today, the meeting should go ahead.
Race 1 @ 1:25pm: John McGrath Auto Group Handicap (1000m)
Come Get Me should race on the speed. FIOURUKI (1) finds a suitable assignment on debut. Trialled nicely at Rosehill recently when third. Don't know much about the stallion but this horse clearly has talent. From an astute city yard and he'll get every chance from the rails draw. COME GET ME (4) was second to Nitrous here on debut. That horse went to town and won again. She'll be improved by the race experience and the form around here is clearly top shelf. Will have admirers. JESTA DIVA (5) was floated to Warwick Farm to trial in an interesting move by Queanbeyan trainer Neville Layt. It's clear he has a rap on her. Midfield/untouched in that event. Cahill booked and your entitled to watch the betting moves. MAGICO HOMBRE (2) struggled against the big boys on debut. Back here and should race in his comfort zone. Can improve. SUGGESTED PLAY: Fiouruki to open proceedings.
Race 2 @ 2:00pm: Seears Workwear Handicap (2000m)
Genuine speed expected. Competitive event for the stayers. PRINCE CAMELOT (2) has been racing well on the provincial circuit of late. Led them up at Newcastle last start and boxed away well in third. Rock hard fit and should have no issues back to 2000m. Many of these don't win often but he's got the right profile to take plenty of beating. FOX BEAT (3) has turned his form around since joining the Luke Pepper stable. Runner up to Sepulchre in a BM65 here last meeting. Progressing nicely. Looms as a major threat. TREASURE THE LOVE (7) is a nuisance. She bobs up when you left expect it. Will be competitive on best form and the inside draw gives her a chance to show that. SATIRICAL KNIGHT (1) for the multiples. SUGGESTED PLAY: Prince Camelot gets the nod.
Race 3 @ 2:35pm: Australian Health & Safety Handicap (1400m)
Good speed engaged. PAULDRON (1) is a smart horse on his day. Expected to win at the Sapphire Coast last start but he just paddled in the run home, finishing fourth. Freshened up and back to 1400m is key. Has these covered on exposed form and should bounce back in a big way. BID OF FAITH (9) has been a good horse for connections. Reeled them in well at Wagga two back. Beaten favourite here last start. Few gear changes made to get her to relax. Great record on the home track. Expect better. COOEE MARCH (2) has been racing well in easier races. FUI SAN (3) is a hard horse to catch. In need of the run first-up. Better known over further but he can sneak into the placings with the right run. KOPAONIK (10) next best. SUGGESTED PLAY: Pauldron for the win.
Race 4 @ 3:10pm: The Duxton At O’Connor Plate (1600m)
No obvious leader. Wondalga should be thereabouts. LADY KIRKHAM (6) is the one to beat. She's returned in good order this campaign. Just beaten this course/distance three weeks ago. Going from strength to strength. Finds a perfect trailing spot from the inside alley and should hold too much class for this lot in the run home. AROHA DIAMOND (4) hasn't won for over a year. Made steady headway here her past couple. Getting fitter and the rise in trip should suit. DIVA PERON (5) was runner-up at Bathurst on resumption. Fitter/further are pluses. THE FANCYJONESGIRL (7) was good last start. Needs to back that up. Next best. SUGGESTED PLAY: Lady Kirkham straight out.
Race 5 @ 3:45pm: Elvin Group Handicap (1300m)
Sally Sweetness should roll forward. ROSEBANK (11) goes on top. She's had two starts for Luke Pepper and placed in both. Found the line well here most recently in a deep race. Ticking over well. Can settle closer from the inside draw. Hard to beat with even luck. SALLY SWEETNESS (8) made sharp improvement at her second race start, finishing second at Nowra. Still learning the caper. Will be sent forward and with the Waterhouse/Bott polish should give an almighty kick. UNLOCH THE ROCK (14) resumes. Trialled well in readiness. Sticky alley but did show ability last time in. OAKSASTAR (10) best of the rest. SUGGESTED PLAY: Rosebank straight out.
Race 6 @ 4:20pm: Affinity Electrical Technologies Plate (1000m)
Strong speed engaged. ENAMOUR (9) is ready to win. Two runs back on the provincial circuit have been full of merit. Not disgraced in town last time in. Fitness peaks. Sherry takes the steer and she'll take plenty of catching on the speed. MISS DIOR (12) poses a threat for the Snowden stable. Kept to the task well at Wyong most recently. Learning all the time. Bigger track will suit. NAVY COMMANDER (2) is beautifully bred by Exceed and Excel. Indicated talent on the trial circuit in Sydney. Sticky gate but class takes him a long way. DE GRAWIN (7) with the blinkers applied can improve sharply. Will lead this and give a sight. SUGGESTED PLAY: Enamour straight out.
Race 7 @ 4:55pm: TAB Federal Handicap (1000m)
Solid speed engaged. KISS MY SWISS (2) is an exciting horse. She's won five from eight. Tested in town last start and passed with flying colours, finishing third. Races on the quick back-up. 62.5kg but gets in with the 3kg claim for McLucas. Weight is the only concern. RUN LIKE A REBEL (12) stuck her nose out to win a Highway last start. In-form mare shooting for the hat-trick. Hard to toss here she's been well placed again. BALONNE (8) loves it here on the home track. Winning form is good form. Back sharply in trip but should be competitive. PRINCE JACKO (5) best of the rest. SUGGESTED PLAY: Kiss My Swiss for the win.
Race 8 @ 5:30pm: TAB Long May We Play Handicap (1200m)
Solid speed to end the program headed by Affinity Beyond. CHELSEA REIGN (1) gets her chance. Provincial form of late has been rock solid. Back nicely in grade to this CL1. Stable rarely leave here without getting a winner. One to beat. OUR BLUE MOON (4) poses a threat second-up. Did enough in town on resumption. Consistent last time in. Will have plenty of admirers. AFFINITY BEYOND (8) won with a leg in the air here first-up. Aims to build on that and there's no reason she can't. REDICON (6) on best form would be in the mix. Next best. SUGGESTED PLAY: Chelsea Reign gets the nod.
