Canberra Racing Preview Tuesday 5 November 2019

There's been rain in the Capital and the track will be in the soft range. A very handy Melbourne Cup Day program and most the races create plenty of betting interest.

Race 1 (1000)

Speculative how they settle. Plenty of unknowns and the late market will be very instructive. On what we’ve seen expect a good resumption from EURO RHYTHMIC (7), who was unlucky the latest off a half length defeat at Moruya. He has trialled well for this and Ward is a positive booking. FEVER TREE (2) was heavily-supported on debut and has clear excuses. Resumes today from the rail and expect him to be improved and ready to go. ASSASSIN'S ARROW (1) debuts for the leading Goulburn mentor with the blinkers applied. McDougall rides and no surprise if the gelding is better than the trial suggests. FATTORE STELLA (4) gets Cahill for the debut and the recent Hawkesbury trial was good. Keep a close eye on the betting with her as well.

Race 2 (2000m)

Olmeto can roll over and lead. LORD DESANIMAUX (2) deserved the Maiden win at the mile before an okay effort at Randwick in much stronger than this. He’s placed 2/2 this trip and appeals reaching peak and drawn to advantage. WAIHEKE (3) has been knocking on the door and is suited off a 70 at the mile. Comes to a middle distance for the first time with the in-form McDougall having his first ride on the Dryden-trained galloper. OLMETO (5) was beaten less than a length this track and distance a month ago behind Time Stamp. Will run them along and is sure to be fancied. DHIAGA (4) won the CL1 at Bathurst up to this trip at even money and no surprise if he went on with it.

Race 3 (1600m)

Appetizing can lead from Monte Majura. MONTE MAJURA (5) peaks now and is ready to win following the placing in a 70 up to this trip. He finally gets a low gate and may be able to turn the tables on GUNGA DIN (1) who raced favourite winning that race and did it well. He will get every chance again using the low gate. ONE HELLOFA FAMILY (2) is up from Victoria and also finds easier. The two Benalla runs prior to the latest read well. LOLITA GOLD (4) ran into fourth behind Gunga Din and will be improved third-up. His best figures at the mile are certainly good enough.

Race 4 (1400m)

A few can race handy but it’s not obvious who leads. EXTREME JEWEL (2) just missed twice before a forgive effort at Warwick Farm when he missed the start by a couple of lengths. Is back 200m and always needs a good ride, but looks suited. BRAD (4) has placed close-up the last two and could get the run of the race from the handy gate. Rates well and gets his chance. INTERCONTINENTAL (6) will be fitter and there was merit in the run here 11 days ago behind Diamond Class. Draws to advantage and shouldn’t be far away. GUNZAR (3) will race handy and is likely to be better at this trip.

Race 5 (1200m)

A tricky race with no designated leader. BRUSSELS (3) will be looking to use the rail and has worked into the placings both run this campaign. The 1200m looks the right progression and she gets her chance. MOHAHNA (1) just missed on debut and returns as a gelding for the leading local yard. Draws low and expect him to be ready and improved. INCEPTIVE (8) resumed as favourite and was slow off and wide and looked in need of some learning. Gets some gear changes and improvement won’t surprise. SUGAR PINE (2) resumes and his last two efforts were his best. Needs a good ride from McDougall, but expect him to be around the mark.

Race 6 (1300m)

Not clear-cut the lead with Rheingau and No What To Keep drawn wider possibilities. Two last start winners get the chance to repeat. JOY AND MIRTH (2) powered down the outside to win the Maiden easily here second-up as favourite and can only be improved. Keeps the in-form McDougall and she can come over the top of them again. DIAMOND CLASS (3) was also good winning the Maiden easily here 11 days ago after missing the start. Keeps the claim and fitter should go close. RHEINGAU (6) flopped as favourite in the bush, but a repeat of his placed effort here three back would make him very competitive. He draws to get every advantage. ROSY DAWN (5) found one too good resuming but ran on well and has won a trial this venue since, and Cahill sticking from that is a positive. She’s a player.

Race 7 (1300m)

Peyton Place is a leader and Athonis and should use the low gate and trail-up with Boys Day Out crossing over. PEYTON PLACE (2) won the CL1 easily resuming for the new yard and then was close-up placing in the Kembla 64. Peaks now on a 10 day return and his figures read extra well. HEAVEN ON EARTH (9) won the 60 easily here 11 days ago running her best race. Needs a good ride but gets the senior hoop today. Stablemate BALONNE (12) rates similarly off the impressive third-up win here 25 days ago in the 60. He’s right in it again. ONS VIER (4) draws low and was better the latest. She shouldn’t be far away.

Race 8 (1000m)

Sky Mission, It’s Business Time and Washington Towers are all quick from the gates, and a few others will be around to pressure over the short sprint. WASHINGTON TOWERS (5) is lightly-raced and resumes off an Open 2 win at Bathurst. Was tried at Stakes level prior and is sharp fresh. He has the speed to clear the tricky gate and expect him to be ready and tough to beat with Ward booked. DANGEROUS BREEDING (7) was beaten a lip here resuming in stronger grade racing in the worst part of the track. She will settle close-up and presents as a genuine winning chance. DENESC (10) has had one blip in a string of strong recent efforts. Hasn't won for a while, but gets the low gate and her best would be good enough. ZAMBADA (6) and JEWEL OF THE CLAN (9) both resume and keep a close eye on the market with them.
