Black Opal Stakes Day to live up to it’s reputation

A crowd of up to 3,000 will enjoy the all that John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes Day has to offer this Sunday 7 March. Canberra’s premier race day, John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes Day continues to be a highlight of the Canberra social calender offering the Nation’s Capital something to celebrate this Canberra Day long weekend. The event is a complete sell out except for Members and Owners who will receive automatic entry upon arrival.

The Fenway Public House Fashions on the Field Grand Final will take place on course with five Ladies and five Gents chosen after a competitive virtual competition via Instagram. Hosted by local indentiy Kristen Davidson, the winners will share in over $5,500 in prizes. Competitotrs will be juged upon Autumn tradition, elegance and innovation.

The party atmosphere will continue throughout the afternoon with various DJs across the venue and roaming entertainers including some Big Blue Dwalves will give the punters the perfect opportunity for that all important race day Instagram photo.

The main act of course is the on-track action that includes the $250,000 John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes and the $150,000 Seears Workwear National Sprint.

Canberra Racing Club Chief Exctuive Officer Andrew Clark is confident that this years John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes will live up to it’s grand reputation.

“There really is nothing like live racing.” Clark said. “You combine that with a great celebratry atmosphere and you’ve got a great day out.”

“With a number of pop up bars and delicious food vans, we’ve got a really good offering here this Sunday for Day 1 of the Canberra Carnival.
