Arguably Australia's Best Maiden No More

The EPC Solar Canberra Guineas Preview saw a dominant performance from John Sargent’s group performed filly Foxborough. A perfectly timed ride from Irish apprentice Tom Sherry saw her finally break her maiden. Arguably Australia’s best maiden prior to Friday, she has a 3rd in the Group 1 Flight Stakes behind Funstar and Probabeel (NZ) to her name. “She’s quite talented, she was probably a little weak last preparation but she’s come back a lot stronger.” Trainer John Sargent said.

“She’s pulled up very well, there’s a big chance she’ll be back for the Canberra Guineas”.

The $150,000 Listed XXXX Gold Canberra Guineas, Canberra’s premier 3-year-old race, will be run on TAB Canberra Cup day on March 9th. Foxborough is now exempt from the ballot into the race along with Jason Coyle’s Sirmaze who flashed from last to second in the EPC Solar Canberra Guineas Preview.

“It was an excellent performance first-up” Trainer Jason Coyle said of Sirmaze’s run.

Coyle is unsure of the plans for the gelding but there remains a possibility that he will be here on TAB Canberra Cup day. “He’s bred to get over further and probably looking for 1600m next so we’re not sure how the Guineas over 1400m will suit but he’s pulled up very well.”

The XXXX Gold Canberra Guineas is Race 6 on TAB Canberra Cup day and is due to jump at 4:30pm, Monday March 9th.
