Aptly named Win The Day takes out 2024 Canberra Community Chest
The 2024 Canberra Community Chest has been run and won.
Communities of local charities gathered at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday, 24 November to witness Ciaron Maher’s Chorlton Lane hold off a fast-finishing Super Helpful to deliver his charity partner, Win The Day, a $25,000 contribution to their important cause.
12 charity & community partners shared in the $50,000 community chest with 2nd place Respite Care for Queanbeyan, represented by Super Helpful and 3rd place Lions Youth Haven, represented by Battleton securing $7,500 and $5,000 respectively. Every partner walked away with a share of the pool, with $1,000 going to last place.
Win The Day, a worthy winner of the Canberra Community Chest, supports families who are affected by childhood cancer and this contribution will make a meaningful difference.
Win The Day Founder Kristy Giteau said, “When Chorlton Lane crossed the line my first reaction was I was in complete disbelief. And once I had realized it was our horse, I cried.”
“It was a such a brilliant day, and we already felt honoured to be selected as one of the 12 charities and that was before we knew we had actually won the race!”
“To win the money, means we can support families in a multitude of ways but in win the day terms $25,000 could support 3 families in a celebration of life grant, or 13 families in an ingoing treatment grant, or 5 families with accommodation, or 33 families with 3-months worth of meals.”
Win The Day were well represented oncourse and there was an almighty cheer from their supporters in the final stages of the Canberra Community Chest.
“The day is one of the best days that we are a part of.” Giteau said. “I am in awe of the coordination and effort that Canberra Racing Club goes into making sure all 12 charities get exposure and have an opportunity to network with other amazing charities.”
“I also love the day because it as it a wonderful day to celebrate with my family and wonderful volunteers that drive our charity and make it such a success.”
