Barrier Draw in the City

The barrier draw for both the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes and the TAB Canberra Cup will be held in the city centre adjacent to the Canberra Carousel on Thursday, 5th March from 12pm to 1pm. Owners will be invited to participate in the spectacle that may prove to be decisive in both $250,000 Canberra Carnival features.

The event will be hosted by local presenter Cam Sullings and include interviews with trainer Barbara Joseph and Jockey Kayla Nisbet. The Club will be offering owners, media and those passing by light refreshments.

The event is one of a number of social events preceding the Canberra Carnival. Canberra racing Club CEO Andrew Clark commented “One of the key concepts that led to the creation of the Canberra Carnival was the reinforcement that racing is a community event, designed to attract people to Canberra and provide its residents a social outlet to be enjoyed over the Canberra Day long weekend. To conduct our Barrier Draws in the heart of the city over the busy lunch period gives us an opportunity to showcase an important part of the racing mechanism in front of the community in an entertaining fashion”.

The first of these social events, the John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes Cocktail Party was held at Mercedes-Benz Canberra on Thursday 27th of February.

The Canberra Carnival, held on the Canberra Day long weekend, encompasses John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes Day (8th March) and TAB Canberra Cup Day (9th March).
