Warwick Farm onslaught to Canberra contingent

Guy Walter has cemented a position as one of the top trainers of Australia, with a regular spot in the top ten trainers in the Sydney premiership. Since 1990 he has won over $38m in prize money and only a handful of rivals have produced more than 27 Group 1 victories and over 100 stakes wins.

Guy will bring a calvary of 15 of his 50 horses currently in work to Canberra for the Holiday Race Day on Friday 8 January to take on the locals and to extend his points on the Canberra Premiership board.

“Guy’s attendance with so many horses coming to Canberra is a true indication that our track is popular with many interstate trainers” Acting Chief Executive Andrew Clark said.

On a local front the Vella brothers will have horses returning to the track. Ocky Vella, trained by George Vella in the Watson Blinds & Awnings Benchmark 65 Handicap is returning to a good form since a short spell and Red Robert trained by Gratz Vella in the Australian Health & Safety Benchmark 64 2000m. Red Robert returns to Thoroughbred Park after winning his last start in Sydney over 2800m.

Other events planned for the day include free childrens activities and the Winning Post Bar will be open to the general public.
