The announcement by Canberra Racing Club Chairman Paul Meiklejohn in December introduced the exciting new concept for Canberra Thoroughbred racing offering $50,000 in prize money on each of the 25 race programs conducted by the Canberra Racing Club per annum in order to support the training base at Thoroughbred Park.

The Federal will comprise of a $10,000 bonus for which only Canberra trained horses will be eligible to win.  This bonus will be split on a 60%, 30%, 10% basis to the first 3 Canberra horses across the line.

The conditions for the races will be as follows:

Races will be of $40,000 advertised prize money. Plus a bonus of $10,000 for Canberra trained horses.

Eligibility to compete is restricted to Canberra trained horses and NSW Country trained horses with ballot preference given to horses with Canberra as the training location on the     Stable return.

The bonus split being on a 60%, 30%, 10% basis and will be paid to the first Canberra trained horses across the line. Canberra Trained horses do not have to win or run a place to receive the bonus, for example, if the first Canberra horse across the line runs 4th, then that horse receives the 60% bonus amount, the next Canberra horse 30% of the bonus and the 3rd horse the final 10%. Horses finishing further back than 10th are not eligible to receive the bonus.

Several likely contenders to win the inaugural event include Todd Smart’s City Boots and Paul Facoory’s Zambada who is fresh and has drawn well.

A presentation in the mounting yard following the race is scheduled.
