Single Gaze all set for Cup day

Trainer Nick Olive reports all is well with Single Gaze heading into tomorrow’s Melbourne Cup.

Olive says the star Canberra mare has been ticking along nicely and went back to the beach yesterday and had a canter around this morning (Monday).

Olive says Single Gaze’s jockey Kathy O’Hara has just arrived in Melbourne and off a big winning weekend.   O’Hara wrote three winners at Rosehill on Saturday including Carzoff for Chris Waller. She followed up on Sunday with a winner at Goulburn.

Olive remains confident Single Gaze will run out the two miles of the Cup. He is happy with the 11 gate and says O’Hara will get every opportunity to find a comfortable position away from the fence and work into the race at the right time.

Because of Single Gaze’s presence in the race, this year’s Melbourne Cup build-up has been unprecedented in Canberra. Clubs, pubs and tabs will be jammed-paced for the event and bumper crowd is expected at Thoroughbred Park to cheer the mare home.

Some showers are predicted for raceday but the Flemington track is expected to present on perfect order for the $6.2 million race.

Despite her strong lead-up form including a second-placing in the Caulfield Cup, Single Gaze is currently $41 on fixed odds.
