The Canberra Contingent Making Headlines

It’s been a great start to 2015 with several young horses from Canberra stables making headlines both locally and nationally and flying the Canberra flag.

The Nick Olive trained Single Gaze has made great progress and had the team holding their breath at the Magic Millions last month with a galant third in the race. The filly’s first start and win at Rosehill has cemented her as a definite ambassador to watch from the local stables with $236,750 in prize money already under her belt.

A Black Opal Stakes win would be Nick’s first.

Looking at American Times’ form you can’t help but be impressed with this 3yo filly’s record. Four firsts at Canberra in a row and trainer Gratz Vella is confident of a continued winning streak. He will aim her at the Premier Racing Partnerships Canberra Guineas on Seppelt Black Opal Stakes Day.

Matthew Dale’s impressive looking 3yo gelding Fell Swoop has wowed the crowd over the past 3 starts and wins at Canberra taking the field to win by margins on average of 3.8 lengths over 1000m in quick time. Blake Shinn has been booked to ride Fell Swoop next Wednesday in a 3yo no metropolitan win race over 1200m distance at Rosehill. Matthew will reassess the next move after the run.
