Double for Gratz

Canberra based trainer Gratz Vella collected his first winning double for the season at the Canberra race meeting on Friday 28 May, elevating him to outright sixth in the Canberra Race Club’s Trainers Premiership.

The Vella stable collected its first victory when two  year old Milly Turncoat edged out stablemate Tiara Time to win the first race, a two year old handicap over 1000 metres.  A winning quinella for the Canberra based trainer, Vella was very impressed with both horses’ efforts.

Myer face of Canberra Racing 2010 model search

The title of the 2010 Myer face of Canberra Racing will be up for grabs when contestants will take part in Canberra’s only local model search. With the launch today of the competition Sales & Marketing Manager Briony Young said that this year the competition is anticipated to be well contended. “In 2009 the competition was in its first year and we received 46 entrants. This year I expect a lot more after the success of the competition and the high standard of representation from Elkie Stuart”.

Warwick Farm onslaught to Canberra contingent

Guy Walter has cemented a position as one of the top trainers of Australia, with a regular spot in the top ten trainers in the Sydney premiership. Since 1990 he has won over $38m in prize money and only a handful of rivals have produced more than 27 Group 1 victories and over 100 stakes wins.

Guy will bring a calvary of 15 of his 50 horses currently in work to Canberra for the Holiday Race Day on Friday 8 January to take on the locals and to extend his points on the Canberra Premiership board.
