Happy Times for Vella

Happy Time from the Gratz Vella stable will go into his race at Queanbeyan on Monday full of confidence after a last start second at Canberra.


The four-year-old has been struggling for form of late but managed to put it all together to run his first placing since August last year.


The son of Foreplay has shown potential throughout his career and Vella is confident Happy Time can build on his recent good form.

To Dubawi Go will look to continue her winning form in the Tursa Employment & Training Grafton Guineas on Wednesday.


It took the three-year-old Dubawi filly 11 starts to break through for a maiden win which came at Canberra three starts ago, and was backed up with a win the very next start at Kembla Grange.


Strong Hand

The Joseph and Jones stable look to hold a very strong hand heading into today’s meeting at Thoroughbred Park with a number of their gallopers poised to take centre stage.

Both Delabombell and gutsy stayer Ultimate Gaze looked well placed in their return to Canberra after recently competing at the Metropolitan level.

Canberra Cup Transfer

The Canberra Racing Club has moved to create a “Super Sunday” Race Day by transferring the $200,000 Canberra Cup race onto the Kamberra Wine Company Black Opal Stakes race program on Sunday 11 March next year. 

The Canberra Racing Club Committee decided on the move at a meeting on Tuesday, a move which followed consultation with racing industry representatives.   

Queanbeyan Star back in work

Karuta Queen, the Flying filly from Queanbeyan is back in work and trainer Neville Layt is planning an all out assault on the spring carnivals in both Sydney and Melbourne.


The two-year-old Not A Single Doubt filly returned to Layt’s Queanbeyan stables last week after a well deserved eight week break.


“She has spelled enormous,” Said Layt. “I am very happy with the way she has returned, she looks terrific and hasn’t changed at all.”


There’s Not A Single Doubt About Dale

Canberra based trainer Mathew Dale’s successful association with sire Not A Single Doubt continued at Wagga yesterday when debutant Not A Dancer demolished a field of two-year-olds by seven lengths over 1000 metres.

Jumping as a $2.60 favourite, Not A Dancer ridden by Brendan Ward bounced to the front and never looked threatened, kicking clear on the turn to run away with an impressive win, leaving the rest of the field to fight it out for the minor placing’s.

30th Anniversary on track!

Thoroughbred Park will welcome the members, guests, players and board of the Gungahlin Jets Australian Football Club to the track on Tuesday 26 April.

The Canberra Racing Club has welcomed today’s Independent Competition and Regulatory Commission’s (ICRC) recommendation that the ACT Government continue its financial support for the local Racing industry.

The Canberra Racing Club says the recommendation contained in the ICRC’s report into the ACT Racing Industry recognises the value of the industry to the local economy and the flow on benefits to the community.
