Impressive nominations for Canberra's premier event

The nominations for the 4 major races on John McGrath Auto Group Black Opal Stakes are out with some impressive blue bloods and trainers included.  With total prize money on offer of over $900,000, the big names from metro stables as well as some handy runners from the locals are predominant.

From the Waterhouse/Bott stables, winner of the Black Opal Preview Bellevue Hill is exempt from ballot  and is second favourite with the TAB at $4 behind favourite Bivouac from the Godolphin yard at $3.

Runner up in the Blue Diamond Lankan Star from Hayes/Dabernig already has an impressive record, amassing over $350,000 in prize money and would be the first filly to win the race since 2014, she is currently an $11 chance in all markets.

The TAB Canberra Cup again has several standouts, including last years winner Almost Court, trained by local stables Joseph & Jones and runners from the major metro stables including Big Duke (pictured), who ran 4th in 2017 Melbourne Cup, and is the top weight with 60kg for the 80th running of the Canberra Cup.

Acceptances will be out Thursday morning with the Club anticipating great fields and a standout day of racing in the Capital.
