Fun times for Fun Tickets

Trainer Matt Dale captured his first “Federal” when Fun Tickets was tough to the line winning at Friday’s Canberra meeting.

Fun Tickets was one of two Dale winners on the card, the other being promising 3yo filly Further To Fly.

Friday saw the third running of the $50,000 Federal and all have been taken out by Canberra-based trainers.

Dale was full of praise for the Federal concept; introduced by the Canberra Racing Club when Canberra-trained horses were excluded from Highway Handicaps in Sydney.

The exclusion was a set-back for the local industry but it has bounced back with Federal monies on offer at each local meeting.

Dale says he hopes Fun Ticket’s win will be one of many Federal successes for the stable.

Jockey Matt Cahill has leaped to the top of the ACT Jockey Premiership after booting home two winners on Friday’s program, both for the Keith Dryden-Scott Collings stable.

Cahill with 14 winners is two clear of apprentice Patrick Scorse.

Dryden-Collings lead the ACT Trainer Premiership by an even bigger margin. With 17 winners they are 8 wins clear of the Barbara Joseph –Paul Jones partnership.

Both Cahill and Dryden-Collings are striking at around 23%.
