Dale and Ward Set To Win Canberra Premierships
With just one meeting remaining in the 2015-2016 racing season, Matt Dale and Brendan Ward have unassailable leads in the Canberra trainer and jockey premierships.
Dale sits on 27 wins from 88 starters — a strike rate of 30.7% and prize money totalling $402,750.
He is 11 wins clear of Keith Dryden whose 111 starters have yielded a strike rate of 14.4% and prize money totalling $270,150.
Barbara Joseph-Paul Jones and Nick Olive follow with 13 and 10 wins respectively.
Surprisingly, a flat win bet on every Dale runner would have delivered a profit on turnover of 12.8%.
Ward has cleared out from his fellow jockeys with 22 wins from 112 rides at a strike rate of almost 20%.
Jay Ford follows on 16 wins from 78 rides at a strike rate of 20.5%, ahead of Mat Cahill 14, Kayla Nisbet 13 and Jeff Penza 12.
Ward has earned connections $320,499 in prize money.
A couple of standout stats are trainer Peter Robl’s three winners from four starters and jockey Blake Shinn’s four winners from 10 rides.
This will be Dale’s first Canberra Trainer’s Premiership with the promise of plenty more to come.
