As required under Clause 20(a) of the Constitution, at the first Committee meeting after the AGM, the Committee elect one of its members to be Chairman, one to be Vice Chairman and one to be Treasurer.
Due to both personal and business commitments, Paul Meiklejohn did not seek re-election to the position of Chairman of the Canberra Racing Club. Paul has invested a significant amount of time and effort during his tenure as Chairman and the Committee expressed gratitude for his commitment to the role and look forward to Paul’s continued contribution as a valued Committee member.
The following members of Committee were elected with unanimous support from the Committee:
Chairman - Ian Mackay
Vice-Chairman - Stephen Heppenstall
Treasurer - Les Boag
Ian Mackay has a stellar history in Racing, which has been a passion since childhood. Prior to relocating to Canberra in 2014 to become CEO of The Canberra Southern Cross Club, he worked in the racing industry for over 10 years in roles at the Sydney Turf Club, Tabcorp, Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW. Acting CEO Andrew Clark said “The Canberra Racing Club is extremely lucky to have strong leadership on the Committee to take us in an exciting direction. Congratulations to Ian, Stephen and Les in their election as office bearers”.
