City V Country Feel to Friday’s Lightning Ridge Plate

The countdown to Black Opal Stakes Day is on in earnest with Friday’s running of the Affinity Electrical Technologies Lightning Ridge 2YO Plate.

The traditional lead up to the Black Opal, the Lightning Ridge has attracted 10 nominations — and they are split evenly between leading local yards and powerful Sydney stables.

Peter and Paul Snowden, who have enjoyed Black Opal success with Epaulette and Defcon, have nominated Bondi for Friday’s race.

Bondi last raced when unplaced in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic on the Gold Coast, following a third in the Wyong MM.

In September he was just beaten in the Breeders Plate and will enjoy a big grade drop on Friday and will relish the spacious track.

Godolphin has nominated two debutants, Aramayo and Fallgold, with the latter coming off a Rosehill trial win.

The other Sydney-trained nominations are both from the Gary Portelli yard — I Stole Your Love and Patron Black, who is a last start winner at this venue.

The locals are headed by two promising gallopers — Sizzling Belle from the Nick Olive yard and the Keith Dryden-Scott Collins-trained Handle The Truth.

Sizzling Belle has won both starts with the latest a bold effort at Rosehill.

Handle The Truth impressed winning on debut at Wagga, heavily-backed.

As well as Sizzling Belle, Olive has Dreaming Of Biscay nominated, who placed on debut at Kembla off two trial wins, before failing at Randwick.

Dreaming Of Biscay is better then the form-line suggests and a bold run won't surprise.

The Lightning Ridge nominations are rounded out by The Gratz Vella-trained The Unknown Factor who quinelled behind Patron Black last start off a trial win, and Express Courier, a debutant from the Dryden Collings yard.
