Canberra Trainer Todd Smart Weighs Up Weekend Options
Canberra trainer Todd Smart is weighing up his options with two form-runners set to race over the weekend.
Attainment and City Boots both impressed at their last starts and are nominated for Canterbury on Friday night.
Attainment is a dead set wet-tracked and Smart will watch the weather to determine whether the Commands gelding races there or at Kembla Grange on Saturday.
He comes off a strong BM 60 win at Gundagai where he relished the heavy conditions running his best race.
Attainment is tough and is constantly around the money and got an awesome ride from Nick Haywood at Gundagai,” Smart says.
“He’s come though it well and will be further improved.”
City Boots is a recent addition to the stable and also ran her best race placing first-up at Canberra on the slow.
“She had lost a bit of form and came down from Peter Stanley to see if a change of scenery would turn things around.
“I’ve got her spot on and think she is still up to winning in the city.
“We’ll toss up where the run her at Canberra on Friday at Canterbury that night.”
Smart says he’s pleased with the way the stable has been developing and performing. “Coming to Canberra was the best move I have ever made”.
Smart has a strong training pedigree and is keen to build the quality of the stable and get the opportunity to mentor some progressive stayers.
He says he has a couple of fillies in the paddock that may fit the bill.
“I have a high opinion of both and especially the one by High Chaparral. The Bel Esprit filly is a close relation to Zipping and others good horses and I have an opinion of her as well.”
