Canberra starts in the World's richest horse race

There is stellar racing representation by Canberra stables in two major cities over the weekend including local stars Fell Swoop and Single Gaze.

Fell Swoop takes his position in The $10 million Everest in Sydney and hopes ride for another Group 1 win by Single Gaze in the $1 million Ladbrokes Stakes in Caulfield.

Ten Canberra horses will contest races at Randwick tomorrow.  Apart from Fell Swoop there are three horses engaged in the anniversary highway and five in the consulation highway, with Fox Tales contesting the last race.

This is a record number of Canberra trained horses engaged in Australian feature race days.

Good chances in Saturday’s $200,000 TAB Anniversary Highway 1400m at Royal Randwick include top weight Bring A Secret in the $200,000 feature coming off a comfortable win in the Tony Campbell Memorial at Canberra last start.

Other Canberra gallopers to start in the anniversary highway are Le Cavalier (Norm Gardner) and Darts Away (Barbara Joseph-Paul Jones).

Nominations for the race were so numerous that the Australian Turf Club took the decision to run an additional race on the Everest Day program — a $100,000 consulation TAB Highway over1400m.  The Joseph-Jones Rock On Zariz, Melberra Star and Mercurial Lad, Super Star Bob (Matt Dale) and Appoint Percy (Luke Pepper) will fly the flag for Canberra in the consulation and Nick Olive trained Fox Tales will run in the $100,000 Sydney Harbour Exclusive.
