Is the Canberra Cup Canberra's oldest event?

Is the Canberra Cup the oldest ongoing event in Canberra with the 2013 ACTTAB Canberra Centenary Cup in its 75th year?

In 1921, a race meeting was held to raise money for the Canberra Branch of the Returned Soldiers. Located just near the Molonglo River and Black Mountain, organised race meets were now up and running.

The Canberra Cup was first run in 1926 which technically makes the race at 87 years but was ‘on-hold’ throughout the Depression from 1930 to 1935 and again through the World War II years 1941-1945.

In the Canberra Centenary year, the Cup will be known as the ACTTAB Canberra Centenary Cup as part of the Kamberra Wine
Company Black Opal Stakes and will be run on Sunday 10 March.

Other time honoured events that continue today include the Royal National Agricultural Society Canberra Show, this event was first organised in 1927 at Hall Showgrounds.
