Canberra’s Biggest Race Day Looms

Canberra’s premier racing event – Black Opal Stakes day - is just over a week away.

The Canberra Racing Club is confident that the festival like atmosphere and quality racing will achieve record breaking crowds to celebrate the region’s biggest race day.

The Club is hopeful of cashing in on another strong two-year-old season by attracting a crack field to the $275,000 Mercedes-Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes (1200m) on 6 March 2016.

The race day prize money in total is $847,000 over the 8 races which includes the cash injection of the Capital Cash incentive.

Along with the racing there will be plenty of activity off-course with live entertainment, food stalls and the Myer Fashions on the field competition which offers over $15,000 in prizes including cash, Myer gift cards and more.

Canberra’s own Big Boss Groove will play throughout the day, free children’s face painting and jumping castle will keep the children amused along with the colour and excitement a race day provides.

Hospitality options have been almost booked out with the new Deck Marquee concept achieving a 100 per cent increase this year.

Pre-booked general admission tickets can be used for free on ACTION bus routes anywhere in Canberra to and from the racecourse on the day.

Uber have offered $20 free rides when patrons use the codeL BLACKOPAL.

Discounted ticketing is still available from Ticketek for $15 per adult ticket until 1 March. The tickets will then be full price for $25 online or at the gate on the day.

The official charity of the day is AFP Legacy.

A raffle worth over $6000 in prizes is on offer and tickets can be bought in specific locations on course on the day.
