Big Leaders — ACT Jockey/Trainer Premierships

With less than two months of the 2017-2018 racing season remaining, there’s clear-cut contenders for the ACT Jockey and Trainer premierships.

Mathew Cahill holds a six win lead over Richard Bensley in the jockey division striking at 22% on Canberra tracks.

Bensley is benefiting from choice rides with the Nick Olive stable and this season looks his best chance to take out the title.

Both hoops recorded a winner at Friday’s meeting on the Acton with Cahill winning the ‘Federal’ on Like A Shot for Keith Dryden and Scott Collings, and Bensley saluting on Star Of The Clan for Olive.

The Dryden-Collings partnership has a 10 win lead in the trainer premiership over last years victor Olive, who’s four wins clear of Barbara Joseph–Paul Jones.

Dryden-Collings are striking and almost 22%.

The Olive yard is renowned for piling on the winners late in the season so the premierships’ remain of keen interest.
