Arab Dawn Heading To Canberra Cup

Last-start Parramatta Cup winner Arab Dawn is heading to the nation’s capital for Sunday’s Listed Canberra Cup.

The Godolphin import drew gate two in a field of 12 for the 2000 metre quality handicap over 2000 metres.

Arab Dawn was a Listed winner at Rosehill at his last outing, just his second Australian start after commencing his career in England where he was a Group 3-placegetter.

The grey carries 57kg at Canberra with James McDonald taking the ride.

The Peter Robl-trained Centre Pivot is the cup topweight with 58.5kg and drew the outside stall.

Winner of the Listed Bernborough Handicap and placed in the Magic Millions Trophy over the summer, Centre Pivot will be ridden by Blake Shinn.

Chris Waller has Loophole engaged from barrier one while Gai Waterhouse’s Hippopus comes from gate six.

Last year’s winner Faust will be out to defend his title for trainer Kurt Goldman, drawing barrier three.

Waterhouse is also represented in the Listed XXXX Gold Canberra Guineas (1400m) but her charge Al Nadar came up with the outside stall in the 15-horse field.

James Cummings has a pair of acceptors in the fillies Way To Good and Ocean Tempest, while Godolphin also have a filly engaged in Italy.

Waller provides the topweight in the Affinity Constructions Aust P/L National Sprint (1400m) in dual stakes-winner Amvatio who drew gate 12 in the field of 16 plus two emergencies - with Hugh Bowman on board.
