8th Annual ACTTAB Tony Campbell Memorial Cup

Racing heavyweights, business indentities, local and federal government officials will celebrate the life of well-known celebrity Tony Campbell at
the 8th running of the ACTTAB Tony Campbell Memorial Cup this Friday 27 September.

Tony Campbell had been associated with the Canberra Racing Club for 29 years in roles that range from Nomination Clerk to Master of
Ceremonies. But of course Tony was best known for his role as race caller for Canberra for 26 years. During this time Tony called 25 consecutive
Black Opals and is well known for his thrilling call of the 1992 Black Opal  in which his great mate Frank Cleary’s Clan O’Sullivan became the
first locally trained winner of Canberra’s premier event.  Tony was also well known as an MC and entertainer at various nursing homes in the Canberra region.

The Canberra Racing Club Premiership Awards for the 2012/2013 season will also be presented to Jockey, Apprentice, Trainer, Owner and Horse of the Year and Contribution to Racing award will proceed later in the day.

Hosted by Sky Racing’s vetran caller Alan Thomas, the Club also welcomes the 2013 Emirates Melbourne Cup and with it special guests Wayne Harris who won the 1994 Melbourne Cup on Jeune and The Age journalist Tony Bourke.  Racecallers Matt Hill and Josh Fleming will also call the races throughout the day with the honours of the main race call to Alan Thomas for the memorial cup.  

The general public can view and hold the iconic $175,000 gold Cup in the Winning Post Bar from 3:15pm to 4pm.  
Gates open at 11:30am with free admission into the course
