Single Gaze sizzles in Autumn debut
Canberra-trained Single Gaze is on track for a cracking autumn campaign with an outstanding second behind Hartnell in Saturday’s G1 CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield.
The Nick Olive-trained mare burst through late on the rail to just miss and looked unlucky.
The 1400m was expected to be too short for Single Gaze first-up off the 3200m Melbourne Cup, but Olive said the Caulfield Cup runner-up had come back in best-ever order and so it proved.
Olive said the mare has plenty in the tank and the best of her this preparation will be seen when she gets out to 2000m and further.
She will next race in the G2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield and will then go on to the G1 Australian Cup at Flemington.
If all goes well she will travel to Sydney for the G1 Ranvet Stakes and the G1 BMW where Olive believes she will be seen at her best.
On Saturday, Single Gaze ran a Timeform Rating of 113 which was 5 pounds shy of her peak recorded in the Caulfield Cup.
