Update on the Acton track

Racecourse & Facilities Manager Adam Ayre travelled to Germany in May to inspect fibre and wax consignments for the new Acton Track surface to ensure specifications were met prior to shipment to Australia.

The first shipment of wax and fibre is scheduled for arrival in Sydney on 20 July and should be on site by early in the week of 25 July. As soon as these components arrive on site mixing will commence and the mix stockpiled. The mixing plant is set up in the public car park if you wish to view.

The second shipment of fibre is expected by the end of July and the second shipment of wax is expected to be on site by 15 August at which time the final mixing will commence. The project has been delayed by contractual negotiations with overseas suppliers and production delays due to plant malfunctions mainly in relation to the supplier of wax.

The expectation is that the track will be ready for trials by the end of August and ready for racing on the race meeting of 9 September.

Marketing Plan

With the new financial year upon us a new 2016/2017 marketing plan will be implemented over the next few months including an updated website and a 6 month campaign through various media mediums to encourage non-race day functions and provide revenue to the Club. The Club will also attend the Wedding Fair at the end of the month which exposes the Club function areas for Weddings and special events as well as other opportunities on race days. There has also been additional marketing plans put in place for our feature race meetings to provide both members and existing and new clientele with a greater race day experience which include a shared marquee on Home Straight, increased tables in the Thoroughbred Club for casual dining and a revamp of Catbird Lane.

The Canberra Racing Club is looking to continue to grow Race Fields Legislation revenue by promoting tips through digital and social channels nationally. The Club will be looking to test some new digital channels in addition to the current partnerships and tips driven through social media and websites.
