Increased Luncheon Facilities for Mercedes Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes Day - Sunday 6 March 2016

Members will be aware of the difficulty of obtaining a table at which to sit after purchasing a meal from the Black Opal Room carvery due to the permanent and reserved table arrangements. On Black Opal day this year an additional carvery serving the same menu as the Black Opal Room will be set up in the Owners Room from which meals may be purchased from 11.30 to 3pm and afternoon tea to 3.30pm.

Tables of four will be set up in both the Owners Room and the Thoroughbred Club which will accommodate up to 72 people per sitting. The arrangements are that the tables provided are for dining only and not as a permanent position for the day. We ask that members who purchase a meal vacate the tables designated after consuming lunch. From 3.30pm these tables will be available to sit at for the rest of the day.

For members' information, the Owners Room is no longer used as the Owners Room. Owners now avail complimentary drink and food (vouchers of which are distributed from the Administration Office to listed Owners) and view the replay of their respective race from the Thoroughbred Club situated on the first floor of the Queen Elizabeth stand. There are tables available in the Thoroughbred Club for all day seating apart from the tables designated for meals.

Automated Horse Walkers

In 2004 as part of the track and training facilities redevelopment the Club installed two 8 berth automated horse walking machines which have proved to be very popular with trainers and are fully utilised to the point where there is more demand than spaces on the walkers in peak time. Committee have approved the purchase of one additional 10 berth horse walker as well as increasing the capacity of the existing walkers from 8 to 10 berth by installing additional dividers. With an increasing number of horses in training at Thoroughbred Park the new walker and increased capacity of the existing walking machines will provide trainers with improved training facilities.
