Canberra Rider Passes Away in Road Accident Tragedy

The Canberra racing fraternity has been deeply saddened by the death of approved picnic and trackwork rider Samara Johnson in a motor vehicle accident near Junee on Sunday afternoon.

Samara’s partner, licensed Canberra racehorse trainer Gary Kirkup, was critically injured in the accident and was airlifted to Canberra Hospital. It’s understood he will undergo further surgery today.

Counselling support has been arranged by Racing NSW to help assist participants during this time.

Canberra-based racing chaplain, Bob Prior, has visited the Canberra Racing Club this morning.
