Matt Cahill kicks off season with winning Treble

Friday 23rd September 2016

Jockey Matthew Cahill got the 2016-17 Canberra racing season off to a flyer on Friday securing three winners on the eight-race card.

Cahill scored on Manatassee for Darryl Rolfe, Inchcape Rock for Ron Weston and John Nesbit and Your Knuckleship for the new Keith Dryden, Scott Collins partnership.

Since 1 August, Cahill has also booted home winners at Corowa, Forbes and Wagga for a 20% strike rate and delivering a 52% profit-on-turnover if you flat staked every mount.

Dryden and Collins also saluted with Atlantic Sentinel in the last at Canberra on Friday, making it a double on the day.

Jockey Michael Travers rode a double scoring on Sheezsingle for John Rolfe and Illyrian for the same trainer, capping off a nice day for the linkage.

Canberra’s second meeting for the new season will be held on Friday 26 August with nominations closing at 11.00am, Monday 22 August.

All eight races on the turf will carry a $20,000 purse.

The annual Joseph and Jones Racing Race Day will be held on Friday 23 September and the much anticipated stable function will feature NSW State Of Origin Coach Laurie Daley.
